If you're looking for unique road food, this place is a must-visit! It's a classic old-school BBQ joint. The food was incredibly tasty, and the interior has a diner-like vibe, complete with quick, friendly service. The menu is straightforward, featuring around ten items, primarily focusing on smoked barbecue beef and pork. I had the chance to try a sandwich with all three meats, and it was fantastic! They also have a distinctive coleslaw relish-based barbecue sauce that I've never encountered anywhere else. The prices are unbelievable—it's incredibly affordable!

Update September 2022: Prices have increased slightly by $0.20 over the past three years for the pork BBQ, with other menu items seeing similar modest hikes. U.S. 31 Barbeque is one of three local places I crave after being away from Muskegon for a while. While I have a preference for the pork sandwiches, they also offer ham, beef, and various combo options. Although the different cakes receive high praise, I can only speak to the Baklava, which is a delightful way to round off your meal. The meat is prepared on-site, and the sauce/relish has a distinctive flavor. After many decades of dining here, it never gets old.

I lived away from Michigan for 20 years, and the one food I missed the most was this! I love their generous portions of meat. I’m so glad they’re still around.

Always a great experience. It's best to go in, knowing what to expect. The building is a small diner type place. The BBQ is a relish based sauce, not the brownish red sauce many equate to BBQ. It is sandwiches, made with piled up, thinly sliced Beef, Pork and Ham, (either or combination of them) that is smoked onsite. The food is delicious, but can tend to be messy, so you might not want to wear your best clothes, or eat carefully. They also have fries, drinks and dessert. They are not open late, only until 7pm, and closed Sun.
