We swung through the drive-thru for 2 orders of fries and 2 shakes. I could not believe the total was almost $30. When the employee finally came to the window and confirmed that it was the correct price for what we had ordered, I wanted to cancel but it was already made and I didn 't want it to go to waste. So we headed home with our astronomically priced food . The shake wasn 't terrible, but also, there was nothing special about it that made it worth that price. But the fries were another story. We tried to pick through them to find decent ones to choke down but they were literally inedible. We couldn 't tell if they were freezer burned or undercooked, but whatever the cause, the flavor and texture was akin to chewing on an eraser. I was definitely saltier than the fries. I couldn 't believe they had the audacity to serve such trash food at such a ridiculously high price. Zel 's is a never again for me.
I’ve been to several Zel’s This is the worst Zel’s I’ve ever been to please please avoid this place
Way too expensive, no french fries? 1 polish 1 roast beef 2 small shakes No fries, never asked $31.00 What!! Never again Routmans.
I haven’t been to a Zels in 2 years so thought it would be a fun stop for lunch. Lady at the counter who took my order was super nice and attentive. Zels is always nice, neat and clean . When i walked in i looked over at the empty diningroom only to see the owner, ive seen him at the hammond location as well in the past it’s weird how as an owner he doesnt acknowledge his customers. Anywhere i go if the owners in the house they usally are polite and acknowledge you with happy small talks of thankfulness) and when he got up and left he didnt say goodbye to his employees or thank them. He was the same way lasttime i saw him too. Anyway. The Italian beef was good not what i remember but it was fresh and a typical Italian beef. The cheese fries where not to good, fries were good but the cheese is very fake tasting overly processed cheese sauce) i was disappointed because i know something has changed about the food i ate. I been eating the same thing for years. ive been going to Zels since i was a kid riding my bike as a young-one to the East Chicago location i grew up over there) Im 53 now so ive eaten alot of Zels in my life. Maybe it was just a bad day for Zels so ill give them another try in acouple weeks and go visit the Hammond location. I have high hopes i always liked Zels. Cheers!
