We opted for the shawarma platter ($15) and the falafel platter ($15) for dining in. It was encouraging to see a steady stream of customers on a Tuesday, and our food arrived in a timely manner. My shawarma platter consisted of thick slices of chicken served on a bed of savory rice. I would have preferred a mix of white and dark meat with some crispy bits, but the chicken was still rich in flavor, moist, and tender. The garlic sauce had more of an aioli consistency rather than the usual toum, which tasted fine but might not sit well with my Lebanese friends. The falafel platter included a generous eight crispy chickpea fritters, arranged as a sort of DIY wrap with sides of tomato, shredded romaine, pickled turnip, tahini, and pita. We found the tahini a bit bland, but the falafel were excellent and not greasy at all. We also took home a container of baklava ($10), which was flaky and sweet with a pronounced orange/rose water flavor—one of the most noticeable I’ve ever tasted. On a subsequent visit, I opted for something quick to go: the large shawarma wrap ($11). After a brief wait behind a few other customers, I enjoyed my shawarma in the car. It had a lovely crispness from being grilled, and it contained more traditional ingredients than what some other places offer—chicken, toum, pickled turnips, and the added crunch of French fries. No salad here! If the toum were improved, it could easily take the title of the best shawarma wrap I've had in the province. While Maple Cedar has a diverse menu aimed at a smaller audience that may be less familiar with Middle Eastern cuisine, they are definitely staying true to their culinary roots.
Maple Cedar is a cozy Middle Eastern restaurant located in a strip mall on East River Road. Their menu offers a fantastic variety of delicious options. We tried the chicken shawarma and falafel plates, both of which were wonderful. The baba ganoush was fresh and paired perfectly with warm pita. While there are a few tables for dining in, most customers opted for takeout. The staff were friendly, and our order was prepared quickly. They also have some hard-to-find grocery items, including spices, coffees, and rice. I’ll definitely be back to sample more of their dishes.
I just had an amazing gluten-free pizza from this delightful place. It was vegetarian and packed with fresh vegetables. We also ordered chicken shawarma and combo pizzas, and my family thought they were excellent. The service was cheerful and friendly, and the prices were very reasonable.
We have this picturesque family style Mediterranean (Syrian) restaurant during our trip to the Atlantic provinces. We had spent 5 days on the street and I must say that this was the best lunch we had since the beginning of our trip. The portions were generous, the aromas were complex and the meat was juicy. Absolute value for money and service with a smile was unpaid! Thanks to Basem and Rania for this beautiful culinary experience
This is the best place I've ever been! Great staff and great food safe, I recommend this place worth every penny.
