I make it a point to stop by every time I’m in New London. I tried the brisket, and it was amazing. I can't wait for my next visit!
Always flavorful, and I really appreciate the consistency. My personal favorite is the blackened catfish, but I've tried many items from the menu and the specials. I've never been let down by anything I've ordered. This is genuine, delicious food!
The restaurant has a lovely, casual, and friendly atmosphere. I rated it four stars mainly due to the difficulty I had finding parking; otherwise, I enjoyed everything about it. The service was excellent, and there was a great variety of specials to choose from. I ordered the BBQ platter, which included brisket, ribs, and sausage. It was delicious, with a flavorful barbecue sauce that complemented the meats rather than overpowering them. The garlic green beans were cooked just the way I like them—crisp and tender. Overall, I recommend stopping by to see if this place meets your expectations.
The Bayou has posed a dilemma for me, a foodie’s moral conundrum: should I share this hidden gem with others or keep it to myself? In these times, it's crucial to support our local restaurants, and while my selfish instincts suggest hoarding this find, my better judgment prevails. When you see someone like Chef Brian pouring his heart and soul into creating fresh, delicious meals every day, you want him to be recognized for it! We stumbled upon The Bayou a few weeks ago through word-of-mouth and have returned almost weekly since. Chef Brian must have acquired some Voodoo magic in New Orleans because every dish that comes out of his kitchen is simply among the best I have ever tasted. Each meal has surpassed the last! As for the Cajun and BBQ, Chef Brian’s BBQ sauce is absolute perfection: it's savory, not overly sweet, with a delightful North Carolina tang! The brisket is incredible, delivering a rich smoked flavor and tenderness akin to butter. The collard greens are vegetarian-friendly and bursting with flavor, cooked to perfection without being mushy. The cornbread embodies true Southern style and is the perfect accompaniment to soak up all the delicious sauces. I’m completely hooked on his cheese grits, ordering them as a side no matter what my main dish is—they're that good! I’m excited for future visits where I can explore more options on this side of the menu. The Tex-Mex offerings here are exceptional. Chef’s use of smoked meats in these dishes creates a delightful, unpretentious fusion of BBQ and Tex-Mex that would make any Abuela envious! Then there’s the delightful dilemma: should I stick with my favorites or try one of the daily specials? Definitely TRY THE DAILY SPECIALS! Even within those, choosing can be a challenge (just relax, and know that any choice you make will be a great one). This is where Chef Brian truly shines; you get to witness his creativity with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and I love his culinary vision! I must also give a shout-out to Scott and Kate, who are attentive to your every need with genuine smiles (so be kind!). The service here is truly outstanding—warm, engaging, and entertaining! Do yourself a favor and try it out, or risk missing what could be the best meal of your life!
I really enjoy this restaurant! The atmosphere is laid-back, and the food is fantastic. Last night, my kids treated me to dinner there for my birthday. I’m looking forward to going back again!
