We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes as our appetizer, and I was surprised that the price had not changed $4.99) since 2018. That's cheaper than what I paid at another restaurant last night. However, I don't remember how many we got then. This time we got four thick slices on a bed of sliced lettuce. We keep ordering the fried green tomatoes, but honestly, while many places are good, none of them can match my wife's. She makes the kind where if there are left-overs, I grab another one every time I pass the plate, until they are gone! My wife ordered the thin fried catfish, and I ordered the thick, which kind of matches our shapes! Our server, Daisha, also manned the bar, and she was delightful. I ate everything on my plate except I gave my wife my hush puppies. My thick catfish had three 6-inch pieces, and my wife's thin-sliced had more, but we didn't count. Our fish came with two small slices of buttered French bread, slaw, and garlic fries. Some places give you too many fries for your meal, and usually not enough slaw, but here, everything came out even! We needed a to-go box for my wife's meal, so there is lunch for tomorrow. We'll probably be back in a couple more years, and this place will be on our agenda.
This place was great to stop and grab a quick bite for lunch while walking around the city. The downstairs dining room is open aired which is nice. The food was great and so was service.
We took the St Charles streetcar from our hotel in the French Quarter and got off a short walk from this delicious, unpretentious restaurant for a 1 pm midweek lunch in late April. There were only about 8 tables with people so we felt we had the place to ourselves. Sarah was our server and a pure delight, hunting us down in the parking lot after we left to return my credit card I had mistakenly left behind. The cold draft amber beer in iced schooners was a perfect compliment to our delicious meals, which included gumbo soup for a starter, shrimp tacos, and a fried shrimp plate with hush puppies and fries (delicious aioli sauce) and cole slaw (latter was just average). All of this (3 beers) for under $50 and boy we were full for the next 12 hours! As tourists we wanted local food that was just like this plentiful, well prepared, and not super expensive. Love this place.
Went for dinner here. Wasn’t too busy on a Thursday night. The server was a little busy with tables so it took a bit to get our order in, but the food came within 10min or less. Good overall food. Nothing spectacular but for the price the portions were good and the food satisfying. Also, the free ice cream cone for dessert was a good end to the meal.
Very good food. Good service. Good location on St Charles will return. Bakery attached. Seat by the big windows to watch traffic in St. Charles.
