When Christmas mean Cakes Grill N Café, New Town.!<br/ <br/ The onset of chilled weather and cool breeze denotes two things. One, the arrival of Christmas, and another, the procurance of Christmas Cakes! As the wind sets in, and gives one goosebumps, a bit of shiver and thrill, the bakeries get to celebrate a festival, something which is more like a tradition and ritual than anything else. With the hymns and carols going on in the background, you would have candies, dry fruits and alcohol of different kinds, textures and colors. The alcohol is poured over the mixture of dry fruits flavored by aromatic spices, and this mixture is then preserved until just before the Christmas and New Year, when the cakes are available to the masses.<br/ <br/ Grill N Café, a quaint little café in New Town, was all set to enjoy this ritualistic ceremony a couple of days back. Trays of dry fruits, including the likes of raisins, plums, figs, cashews, black currants, apricots and others were lined up one after the other, and along with various spices like cardamom and mace were put inside a mixing container. Booze of various kind was then poured into this unadulterated mixture, and carefully mixed and nurtured to perfection. This mixture is now going to sit, until the end of December, till it soaks up all the alcohol to produce the finest of fruit cakes and plum cakes.<br/ <br/ This experience is heavenly and hard to put down in words. Beyond the very sight and pleasure you receive while mixing the dry fruits, spices and the alcohol, the other thing which takes you aback is the sheer aroma which emancipates from the mixture. More like mesmerizing you and taking to a dreamland, you would feel intoxicated with the aroma and ecstatic with the joy of mixing all the goodness. Post the joy and fun of cake mixing, we feasted ourselves on some of the food from here to feast our bellies.<br/ <br/ We started off with a Chicken Roll, which had a flaky paratha lightly fried in least amount of oil, covering up chunks of chicken, and finally layered with onions, cucumbers and drizzles of the traditional tomato ketchup. Moving on, there were kebabs of two kinds; first the tikka flavored Murgh Kebabs, and second was the Murgh Reshmi Kebab, with malai layers covering the kebabs. Last but not the least, there was the amazing Keema Pav, perhaps the best one I have had. With chunks of meat cooked in low oil and least amount of spices, the Keema nevertheless tasted rich, without the appearance of seeing heavy.<br/ <br/ This was accompanied with two in-house buns, which again was a sheer treat to devour upon. We ended our meal with their lovely brownie which literally stole our heart. Having the perfect amount of softness, crisp and gooeyness, there was hardly any doubt relating to the popularity of bakery products at this café. With the minimal décor, complemented by the healthy food, this café deserves a must visit on everyone’s list.<br/ <br/ #grillncafe #grillandcafe #cakemixing #winter #christmas #newyear #funtime #merry #christmascarol #kebabs #keemapav #brownie #fruitcake #plumcake #brownie #bakery #whenstomachtickles

Basically, it involves tray decoration and fruits soaking as Christmas decorations and playing of Christmas carols throughout. During this period a lot of fruits and nuts were harvested and prepared to go and make traditional plum cake. The cake mixing ideally involves preparing and mixing dry fruits such as apricots, figs, cashew nuts, raisins and black currants with wine, rum, brandy and whiskey.<br/ <br/ What's just happened? The fruits were laid out and then spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg are sprinkled into the mix. Next came in the boozy alcohol, which is poured on the mixing table. We mixed this up. The place is nice. The red velvet cake is to die for! I was worried about it initially but now it's one of my favourite places. The red velvet cake isn't very expensive comparatively, and though it's not very expensive they haven't compromised on its taste. The cake was mouth watering.
