A truly blended neighborhood where in the space of a few minutes a biker at a light winked at me, a hipster with his Coles and a briefcase hurried home, a woman wearing African cloth from head to toe, and three older gentlemen decked out in their Sean Jean and big chunky gold jewelry glided by me. I love sitting in the booth at the front where a big wrap- around picture window gives me a panoramic view of all these beautiful people who cross paths on the corner of and Avenue. While the food I had an Empanadilla the size of a twin mattress and my Das had a beautiful, rich saucy Picadillo with chunks of peppers and plump olives) is always good, I must admit that my favorite thing about the place is the atmosphere and the people watching. Before the food comes out, they bring hot freshly fried plantain chips with a creamy mayonnaise-garlic dipping sauce to go with my cucumber mojito. My Dad ordered Chocolate cake for dessert, which the make per order and serve with vanilla ice cream and fresh whipped cream. My Dad begrudgingly shared it. A particularly magical time because they usually reserve that booth for larger parties, but they let us sit there as long as we liked. My favorite Buena Vista Social Club and Guests album was playing, and it was a perfect degrees on a Thursday when I was on vacation and the rest of the East Bronx was either coming home from work, picking their kids up from school or out enjoying this beautiful day and on their way to get something good to eat…like me and my Dad
Amazing place. Amazing vibes. Incredible live music. Excellent food
The food was average, nothing out the ordinary. I had the vaca frita with yuca con mojó,which was ok. The yucca had no flavor. I had the flan for dessert which was very sloppy and not firm, the taste was decent. I wouldn’t say it’s an authentic Cuban restaurant by the food or even the workers. They had a live band in the evening, it can use some work
There isn’t much to choose from for a block stretch. This was an oasis in a restaurant desert. Food was delicious. The tamarind mojito was nicely balanced and generous
I love this place. Been coming here for years as I live close by
