I highly recommend it! WOW! **Sancocho (soup):** This soup is just as amazing as I remembered from my first visit. It’s incredibly authentic, flavorful, and delicious. It’s definitely the best sancocho we’ve both experienced! Again, highly recommended! **Yellow Rice and Beans:** This was some of the most delicious and well-seasoned yellow rice and beans we’ve had. The flavors were incredible—absolutely amazing! Highly recommended! **Tostones (with garlic oil dip):** These were super crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They were well-seasoned, and dipping them in the garlic oil made them even tastier. I loved them! **Chuleta (pork chop):** This was one of the most tender and well-seasoned pork chops I've tried, and my husband agreed. It was so delicious—out of all the chuletas I’ve had in NYC, this is by far my favorite! **Pastelón:** This dish surprised us the most. It was absolutely mind-blowing! Filled with sweet, savory, and cheesy flavors, it was simply amazing and extremely delicious. I’m planning to get two of these on our next visit—one to enjoy there and one to take home. Seriously, it’s super delicious! Highly, highly, highly recommended! You must order this; it will change your life. The staff were all very sweet and friendly. Although the place gets busy, it’s definitely worth the wait! Please note that they only accept cash.
Cash only! The rotisserie chicken with rice and beans was absolutely delicious! I have to say, those were some of the best beans I've ever tasted. I also tried a chicken pastelillo, which was a great deal at just $2.50 in NYC, though I probably wouldn't order it again. We arrived around 2:30 PM and ended up waiting about 20-30 minutes because a large group was ahead of us. The seating is limited: there’s one table for up to 8 people, two tables for 4, and one table for 6. I believe there’s a bathroom at the back, but it’s not air-conditioned, of course. This place truly has a neighborhood vibe, happily stuck in the 20th century with its cash-only policy and handwritten receipts.
I was really let down by my experience at this restaurant. I ordered a large sancocho, but it was mostly just a container filled with carrots and potatoes, with only two small pieces of meat. I also got the octopus salad with white rice and black beans, but it was mostly onions and peppers—hardly any octopus. The only decent thing was the white rice, and it takes a lot to mess that up. Overall, I’m really disappointed.
CASH ONLY I wish I would have read that in the reviews prior to arrival, but stuff happens! If you don't have cash, there's an ATM next door. Being Boricua and from Florida, I had high expectations for this meal. We ordered wayyy too much food, but everything was so good. My personal favorite was the pernil and the tostones, honorable mention for the habichuelas rojas. This is a real local spot, it seems to be a family running it. The place was packed the entire time we were sat (about an hour), with a line literally out the door. That's how you know it's good! The only thing I'd pass on if I were to return would be the papa rellenas, they were fried hard almost like an alcapurria and it took away from the flavor inside.
I went to Casa Adela in LES. A lil gem in the city. Puerto Rican vibe all the way. I got there and was immediately greeted and took my ordet. I got an alcapurria , while I waited. It was Delicious. Tasty, well seasoned and really, really good. I ordered the mofongo with a side of pernil. Absolutely divine it even had cuerito on top. I will absolutely go back whenever I'm in LES. Truly a hidden gem in the concrete jungle I call home NYC.
