I wasn’t able to snag a reservation, but my mom and I sat at the bar and had such an amazing experience. Our bartender and server, Daniel, was a superstar. He made our visit to Don Angie even more special and memorable. For food, we started with the Chrysanthemum Salad (best salad I’ve ever eaten , then got the Japanese Sweet Potatoes (words cannot describe how amazing these are and the Lasagna for Two (beyond superb!! . And for dessert, we had the tiramisu and it is definitely the best I’ve had in the US hands down. If you’re thinking about coming to this restaurant, don’t just think about it, do it! You will not be sorry. I will without a doubt be back.
It was very hard to get a reservation here. When they open up reservations at exactly 9am they always ran out right away. We were finally able to land one and we were very excited to try this spot out. Sad to say, i think there’s better food places that’s easier to get to. The food wasn’t bad. It was well balance. I would recommend the chrysanthemum salad and the lasagna. The lasagna was very well balanced and fits my flavor profile. The prices were alright it’s not too bad considering NYC. I feel a little indifferent about the service just because i was observing and there was no consistency with the servers. One person was giving exceptional service (ex. Asking if they have any allergies, are they celebrating anything etc) and some were just there to get orders. I would go again to try out the different pasta but other than that it wasn’t as enjoyable as i expected it to be.
Michelin starred for good reason. Service was excellent and so was the food. That was the best Italian food I’ve had in a very long time. Everything cooked to perfection and made with so much intention. I will certainly be back
Their cuisine is best described as Italian fusion with Asian influence, if you're looking for a traditional Italian cuisine, this restaurant is not it.Calamari dish is really blackened/Cajun fried rice with a few calamari pieces and thai basil leaves.Their veal dish was a thin piece of fried breaded meat, with prosciutto cuts and veggies on top. No sauce to balance the dryness. The lobster for 2 was good as was the pasta dish that came with it, however the salad did not have any dressing not even olive oil.The scallops dish was good, tasty and lemony as was the fish with clams dish. Some of their pasta dishes are heavy on the sauce but they don't provide any bread to scoop it up. When we ordered the flat garlic bread, it was really a large cracker with garlic paste. It was the first Italian restaurant that we've been to that they don't serve bread as part of the aperitivo.Their saving grace is their service, friendly staff in a clean restaurant.
Honestly the first dish they recommended was my favorite pasta dish I've had in NYC. It was this pasta with black sesame in the dough and on the dish with apricots on top. Sweet, savory, amazing. Would definitely recommend that if it is offered. Also the Japanese sweet potatoes were fire. I know they are known for their lasagna and it was very good but also very cheesy. The food overall was very good and the quality of the food was also great. The service was amazing and we had very fun and kind servers. The atmosphere was also awesome, very clean and put together.
