My husband enjoyed the French onion soup, noting that it tasted delicious and he particularly loved the cheese. I opted for the special, a homemade butternut squash soup, which was excellent. We also shared a tasty corned beef Reuben sandwich. Overall, a satisfying dining experience.
This restaurant was average at best. There was nothing particularly unique or outstanding about it. We decided to stop in after my partner participated in a race in Central Park and we were looking for a quick meal. The prices were incredibly high and it was challenging to find anything on the menu for less than $30 (including tax and tip). The portion sizes were generous, but the food itself was just standard diner fare, nothing exceptional. I probably wouldn't return to this restaurant in the future, but if you're in the area and need a quick meal, it's an option - just be prepared to pay a premium despite it being a diner.
The café is located in the Beacon hotel and prices are on the higher side. It is a convenient option for hotel guests and tourists as it is located on Broadway on the Upper West Side. However, locals may find better dining options in the area. One positive aspect is the ability to sit outside and people watch. The servers provided prompt and excellent service. On the downside, the older couple who appeared to be managers were rude to the waitress and host in front of customers, making a scene about the placement of menus. It would have been more appropriate for them to address this issue discreetly and with more kindness. I felt uncomfortable and asked to move outside. It should be noted that they charge a 3.5% fee for using credit cards, which is not mentioned on the menu. I tried the cheeseburger and fries, which were decent, but I would only consider coming back if I were in a rush and had no other options available.
Food was average and location was convenient to the Beacon Hotel/theater. The service was bad. The staff seemed like we were just a bother.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Really big portions. The panini could easily be shared by two. Chiken souvlaki was terrific (my fav) They have a large attractive outdoor terrace. Can't wait to go back.
