The concept is simple: ice cream is flash-fried in a tempura batter until it forms a crispy shell, then it's topped with your choice of sauces and toppings. The fried ice cream at Sam's is delicious. The ice cream is creamy and flavorful, and the batter is perfectly crispy. The sauces and toppings are also top-notch, and there's a wide variety to choose from.I tried the original fried ice cream with chocolate sauce and whipped cream, and it was amazing. The ice cream was perfectly frozen, and the batter was perfectly crispy. The chocolate sauce was rich and chocolaty, and the whipped cream was light and fluffy.I also tried the Oreo crust fried ice cream with caramel sauce and sprinkles, and it was just as good. The Oreo crust added a nice bit of crunch, and the caramel sauce was sweet and gooey. The service at Sam's is friendly and efficient. The staff is happy to answer any questions you have about the menu, and they're quick to bring you your food.Overall, Sam's Fried Ice Cream is a great place to go for a delicious and unique dessert. Does anyone else in NYC make fried ice cream?? Well. I haven't seen any. This place is so unique. It's something you HAVE to try at some point. Hot on the outside, frozen on the inside, it's magical. Small place, I wish they had space to sit, but whatever. It's awesome.
After feasting in Chinatown, definitely hit up this place for dessert! You can choose your ice cream flavor as well as your type of breading. I got the strawberry cheesecake ice cream with a bread crumb crust. Both were amazing choices and hit just the spot after a night of spicy foods: You can also get a free fried Oreo if you check in on Yelp!
It's small shop w a couple barstools to sit and eat. Mainly a grab-and-go place. The dessert is very expensive. Almost $10 for whatever you order. But I have to say it's straight flames. The fried Oreos were the cherry on top. Haven't had good fried sweets like these since I was back home in Texas.
Love this place but disappointed they got rid of the green tea and ube ice cream flavors.
