The service is excellent, but the atmosphere of the room is lacking in intimacy compared to the old location. It feels less like Japan and more like an Izakaya in New York, which is to be expected. Overall, it's not quite the same level of escapism as before.
Had no problem, a reservation for a Saturday night. Everything was delicious. We liked the shimmered aal and the grilled cod. Sashimi was fresh. Let's go back when we're back in the area.
This new location of Yopparai is just as funny and tasty as the old, but in a lot of space! Everything we ordered was just absolutely delicious; we have ordered quite everything from each section of the menu and each dish was just as good and very authentic to a izakaya. Our employees were so friendly, knowledgeable and amazing, offer great recommendations for food and will. We had such a wonderful time and they were so friendly and accommodating (we didn't know we were over the closing time until we were gone! and never once felt we rushed. A wonderful place with delicious food and Sake with a warm and wonderful staff. We can't wait to come back!
Excellent service and food. Got a little loud as the evening went on but didn’t impact enjoyment. We will be back again
I came to Yopparai for the omakase experience selection for my boyfriend’s birthday, since he likes to try new foods and has never had omakase before; I was treated to one of the best culinary experiences of my life. We were taken to a private enclave to sit in a more traditional Japanese environment and had a great Yuzu cocktail a glass of plum wine. Each course was carefully presented, explained thoroughly respectfully, and was delicious. Each was well balanced so that our palette experienced various flavors while we still left full. Although we stayed for a long period of time, we never felt rushed and felt well attended. As mentioned, all dishes were well explained by a kind older man who took the time to ask if we had any questions each time, and answered any we had completely. At the very end of our time here, he also asked about what brought us to New York, as well as giving a few short stories about New York in the 70s/80s and growing up in Tokyo, before offering us a Japanese cloth as a momento. All in all, the food was immaculately selected prepared, the experience was fantastic, and the staff was kind welcoming. I couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience or for a greater birthday dinner for my boyfriend. Thank you Yopparai for making his special day unforgettable!
