I'm not sure if this is due to the cultural influences in the Chinese population in Delaware or market pressures from the community itself. I have seen some appetizing dishes that are not on the menu but being enjoyed by family members. I am looking for a place that serves authentic Chinese cuisine, not just good Chinese food in Delaware. Unfortunately, in my search for good Chinese food in Delaware, I came across King Garden. There are many King Gardens in different areas, so make sure you are going to the right one. I decided to try it based on my GPS unit's recommendation. The empty restaurant should have been a warning, but I was hopeful. The fried rice was overcooked and the peas were mushy while the carrots were hard. The char siu was okay but lacked flavor. The orange chicken was overly breaded and lacked crunch, with a bland sauce. Overall, I found the dishes to be disappointing and not representative of good Chinese cuisine.
I live close to this restaurant and it is my favorite spot for Chinese food delivery. There are a few other places nearby, but they do not deliver. I usually order the same thing - steamed dumplings with extra sauce. They are my favorite here, nice and plump with a delicious pork flavor. The dumpling sauce is also delicious, sweet and slightly spicy with ginger, unlike other places that just add soy sauce and sugar. I also like to order the chicken with garlic sauce, a flavorful and slightly spicy and sweet brown sauce. When I'm feeling extra hungry, I also get a side of house special lo mein. My only complaint is that there is limited shrimp in the dish, but I could always order the shrimp lo mein if I want more shrimp. Sometimes the food can be hit or miss, but the last two times I ordered, I was pleasantly surprised.
