Visited JONAHS at Noah's Newcastle for lunch table of 8 chicks who like to lunch n enjoy a glass of vinothe set menu great choices, I enjoyed seafood chowder , grilled salmon, n chocolate Tarantino with liquorice ice cream n Beetroot sauce amazing---all delicious., excellent value for $55 the 2 course menu $48Unfortunately the service was disorganised particularly the drinks, empty wine glasses, on table when main meal served is not good.
Great Location, good food, lousy service. We stayed overnight in Newcastle to catch up with some good friends. This restaurant is perfectly located for a nice view and a relaxed atmosphere where you can have a conversation. We sat at the bar for a pre-dinner drink and the poor barman was struggling to serve a lot of people on his own whilst 5 or 6 other staff members delivered meals. The gentleman in charge did nothing to help the poor chap (he even had to leave the bar to get extra stock). We gave up on a second drink at were shown to our table. A nice atmosphere, our choices for entree included, chicken livers (lacked flavour and cold), seafood chowder and baby squid. For mains, duck Maryland, beef fillet, pork belly, and fresh fish. All meals were nice although the steak needed a chainsaw to get through it. Serve was good, food could have been hotter, and we had a great evening. For the price, it was okay but would think twice about coming again. This is strike 2 for it from us.
I was lucky enough to get a table with no reservation (being a solo traveller often helps) having wanted to visit for a long time. I was not disappointed. Whilst the prices are up there with Sydney prices, the service was faultless; the presentation of the food was faultless and, despite being the solo traveller, I was not ignored in favour of an otherwise very busy restaurant. I had two entrees (having had a largish lunch) of scallops on polenta (the scallops were HUGE!) and chicken livers with broad beans (one accepts that chicken livers aren't everyone's cup of tea) but these were perfect, and beautifully presented. Washed down with a SA shiraz. I was more than perfectly happy. Particular thanks to Jake and Lisa who went out of their way to make sure I was ok. That type of service does not go unappreciated and a credit to the restaurant.
The food was delicious, but the portions were tiny. I know an entree is meant to be smallish but ours were really small. 3 little mouthfuls and it was gone. The main dish was absolutely delicious (barramundi) but once again a small serving even though we ordered extra veges with it. Dessert was okish. Their website is not up to date as we had looked at the menu before arriving and decided on the 3 things we would order for entree, main and dessert, but not one of them was available, not one, and as we do not eat meat, our choice was already very limited so that was a disappointing start. The service was excellent but the prices were steep and of course if you're eating dinner there after dark then the usually spectacular view is null and void so paying all that money for no view doesn't help your cause. Overall, I would recommend eating here if they improve their serving sizes and it is light outside.
