They had breakfast at the hotel every morning and on the first day, they were served by Simone Prior. They mentioned that she made their first day very enjoyable, and was friendly and polite. I also dined at the Corner House pub for lunch or dinner throughout the week and was served by Simone a few times. Each time, she was absolutely delightful, as were the other staff. Simone is excellent at her job and a pleasant person to be greeted by at the front of the house. Thank you for a wonderful trip.
I brought my mother into town and decided to take her to this restaurant where I had enjoyed a nice roast before on a Sunday. However, this time was a complete disaster and I felt embarrassed for bringing her here. The staff were quick to bring out our drinks, but after the first roast arrived, we didn't see another waiter for 8 minutes. By the time my roast came out, my mother still hadn't received hers and we had to watch our meals cool down. Five minutes later, her roast finally arrived, but by then ours were already cold. Additionally, they forgot to bring the extra gravy we had paid for and the starters we ordered. I had to go to the bar and inquire about the missing items, to which the lady claimed the gravy was already on the plate. However, there was barely any gravy at that point, even though we paid for extra. The manager appeared to be indifferent and rushed me as if she hadn't just ruined the meal that cost me over £50. I doubt I will return here for a roast again. The food was tasty, but the service was terrible, especially considering how empty the restaurant was. They were only 10-20% full at most. It's okay for a drink, but I would avoid dining in the kitchen as they don't seem very organized with the staff.
There are few options available for vegetarians or those with gluten sensitivity on the menu.
What a pleasant stay, nice food, exceptionally helpful staff. Room was ample for our 1 night stay. Only 1 minor grip tiny bathroom.
My husband booked this place on a 2 for 1 deal which was a reasonable price for room only. When we arrived, we received a warm welcome, everything was explained in terms of doors at night, along with breakfast times etc. Our room was small and quite basic, there’s hanging space but no drawers to put things away, maybe for one night this would be ok but we were there for two nights, so we had to place our bags on the floor and take out as we needed. There’s a full length mirror but no plug socket close by for plugging in a hairdryer and to be able to see when drying your hair. There were sockets by the desk and a blank wall above it, surely an ideal place for a mirror? There were only two tea bags provided, so one each for one cup of tea, more would have been nice. Our room unfortunately overlooked the road, which was very busy and noisy and this really affected our sleep. We couldn’t open the window due to the noise and even with the window and the double glazing closed, the noise overnight disturbed our sleep. That said, the location in terms of the bus stop to go into the city is good as the bus stop is right outside. The shower cubicle was small and the strength of the water through the head was really weak. The towels were a decent size though and basic hand wash provided by a wall dispenser, the same in the shower cubicle. Breakfast was at an additional cost and it was good. Overall, we were disappointed with our stay and the amenities, neither of us slept well, the shower was disappointing and not the refreshing wake up I’d hoped for.
