Umi Asian Cuisine - Newport

As a professional cook, I placed an order through UberEATS for Umi but the restaurant closed before a driver arrived. They went above and beyond by personally delivering my order from Newport to Narragansett. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. I have never had a disappointing meal at Umi. Remember to always tip your delivery driver! Kingston Pizza Bonnet Shores highly recommends Umi!

I ordered the lunch special and a water to go, which was $10.53. As I was eating, a man in a wheelchair came in. He seemed to be friends with the man and woman working there, even though he was not clean. They provided him with food and drink without him paying for it, which was nice to see them helping him. However, I found the portions to be very small for the price I was paying. Overall, I was not satisfied with my experience and will not be returning to this restaurant.

I usually don't like giving 1-star reviews, but I feel like I have to in this case so others don't waste their money. I had a bad feeling when my sushi was served on a Styrofoam plate. I ordered the Tuna lovers lunch special and was extremely disappointed. The sashimi was chewy, the tuna rolls were discolored, and the sushi had the appearance of raw chicken. It was honestly the worst sushi I've ever had. Our server never checked on us, and we could hear her yelling at someone in the back. I strongly advise against eating here. I may even make myself sick later just thinking about it.

Would not recommend any Japanese menu items and I'm not sure why they offer them, because they taste like weird substitution recipes. Every time I order from this place I'm more disappointed and hate myself for trying again. Tempura especially wasinedible and tasted like old reused cooked vegetables. There are older Japanese and Chinese restaurants in town that have earnedtheir marks. Please patronize them while this restaurant figures out what it's trying to offer, instead of a broad, catch-allgeneric menu. Jack of all trades, master of none, as they say.
