Newport Steak Seafood

We sat in the bar yesterday and were greeted by a fun pair of servers. I've served our drink order and right away. My husband rarely ordered the Jack Daniel's rib eye medium. It was delicious. I ordered deep-fried shrimps. They were crispy inside and tender. Our loaded baked potatoes were very hot. You also have very good Clam Chowder. A little expensive, but was a great meal. Servers even went with the antiquity of my semi-comic man. We're leaving.

This restaurant is absolutely terrible. It has the worst food in Newport. The prices are like a steakhouse but the quality and delivery are nonexistent. My steak was burnt and not properly seared, the seasoning was also burnt. The lettuce in my salad was black on the edges and the cabbage was starting to go bad. My daughter's au jus for her French dip was essentially a puddle of grease. It seems like most of the food came from a box. Don't make the same mistake we did and wait until it's too late to find good food. There are other places open 24 hours with much better food. Avoid this place at all costs. The prices are very expensive for such low-quality food. Sorry for the blurry lettuce picture, but you can still see the black edges.

Went here on a whim on the Monday after 4th of July. Just three adults. There was one overworked waitress working a dozen full tables. I saw a second waitress maybe a couple times in the two hours we were there but she didn 't seem to be taking orders? Anyway, after about fifteen minutes of being seated the waitress walks by and just says I 'll be there as soon as I can. She sounded pretty irritated but we said it 's okay and kept waiting. After about half an hour she came up to the table and took our orders. At this point I start to get cold feet because I 've seen one of the kitchen staff dive into the visible freezer multiple times and pull out everything from fries to seafood, to a corn dog with his bare hands. I start to read other reviews that are hit and miss. And after an hour of waiting, we get our food. It 's absolutely disappointing. The halibut we paid $18.95 for 3 pieces is maybe 6 ounces of halibut and they are definitely squared and from frozen. The fries taste terrible, also frozen and barely warm. My friends $19 cold sandwich was mostly meat and real cheese with tomato and a couple strips of real bacon which was better than the fish at least. We asked for a second plate and it had something dirty on it and right as the waitress was walking by my partner asked me if the hair in our fish was mine and it was and I joked about that being the last straw and she asked if everything was okay and he asked if we could get another plate. She scoffs and grabs the plate and walks off mumbling about last straw huh?! This was obviously a misunderstanding that she became passive aggressive about. This business appears to operate at the bare minimum in staff and food options. The food felt like fast food seafood even though it took an hour and costs $35 for two entrees one of which was a cold sandwich.

Late Sat lunch, after most have left, so no service or wait issues, 3.8 stars. Exceeded our lowish review-based expectations. Both crumbed-battered Cod and Halibut OK, frozen-fries well camouflaged, and clam chowder above average. Hot puffy super-white loaf definitely my carb allocation for this month!

THE SINGLE BEST CLAM CHOWDER I HAVE EVER HAD. The help is awesomene.. and everything from the poppers to the captains platter, and my wife's seafood fettuccine just perfect. If you're in Newport, this is the place to eat.
