Johnny Murphys - Newry and Mourne

After a break in Malahide myself and my sisters decided to stop at Murphys to break the journey home. After perusing the menu my sister ordered the burger....and I said I'd have the same. My other sister apologised and asked if she could just have a children's chicken nuggets and chips but an adult portion. The waitress seemed to take the order ok. After a while she returned with our food .... two very plain burgers and a heap of chips, some chicken nuggets and a heap of chips. We were all more than disappointed expecting a garnished plate with bacon, onions and relish as described in the menu. We asked the waitress why this was not the case and she said she thought we all wanted childrens portions and we should have asked for the special burger. I suggest it was entirely up to her to clarify this when taking the order! Clearly these were not childrens portions! We would have gone to a chippy if we had wanted chippy food. The waitress begrudgingly offered to take them back and garnish them but we declined the offer. The food was already luke warm and mediocre. She didn't even apologise but avoided us and send a different girl to clear and give us the bill who was also very curt and ill-mannered. A very disappointing visit. We will not be back.

We called in for lunch. The staff were friendly with a nice atmosphere. The food was exceptional. Really good and good value

We were here for lunch in December 2021 and the quality was hit'n'miss so it was refreshing to find that they're back on form. After another cobweb-clearing climb up Slieve Gullion, Murphys is a short drive away and highly recommended. The bar itself is sublime; the welcoming decor and open fires would make you wish you were there for the night. As it is, we had superb soups and starters. Service, value and food all excellent.

Went to a party here function room was nice but let down by the terrible service. Wouldn’t return and will be going elsewhere for family events and we have plenty coming up wish we read the other trip advisor reviews as this one event that left an entire room talking about how bad it was, it was actually funny. So very disappointing trying to ‘support local’ when they made no effort to resolve the very small issues we highlighted and the attitude we received was terrible. Buffet platters at £25 each they definitely didn’t serve 6 7 people like they said, more like 3 4. Everyone was starving after. They didn’t serve plates or cutlery with it which was bizarre. We asked for plates cutlery and they couldn’t care less. Handed us some napkins and terrible attitude along with it . Sorry but how can you eat salad covered in sauce with your fingers?? Don’t think it’s a big request to get some cutlery or plates to eat your food with!! They didn’t accept card either. Cash only so over 40 people had to run in and out to get cash to buy a drink. What is that about?? I would strongly advise going elsewhere. We had a party in sheepbridge not that long ago where they couldn’t have done enough for you, the food was included and plenty of it and the service was great so that’s where we will be going from now on and anyone reading this review should do the same

The security guy on the door was very pleasant and welcoming. The food was nice but the staff were not friendly at all it was a bit uncomfortable I did want to get up and leave. Zero covid regulations. No masks on staff or customers when they are passing through. I understand up the north they are easing but seriously don't disregard them completely. I had to stand waiting by the till and then the bill was handed to me and was told to pay at the bar. So your standing waiting while people are way too close to you getting their drinks, again no masks. The worst part for me was the smell of stale air in the place. I was dying to open the window but the staff didn't seem the friendliest to ask them if I could. The layout of the bar has nooks and crannys so its not their fault that they could not leave space between the tables I did not mind that so much. I know everyone is fed up of restrictions but at the same time they are in place to lower the risk so we don't have another lockdown but this place is in a small village so they prob don't give a damn.
