I travel a lot and would love it if there was a place like this everywhere I go. Local home cooked meals. I've only tried the eggplant dish and the zucchini gratin. The tomato sauce in the eggplant dish was divine and I was afraid the zucchini was going to be too cheesy, but it wasn't, it was packed with zucchini. Inexpensive meals that hit the spot. There's no seating, but there's a plaza down the street with a great fountain you can sit next to. You need to try this place if you are looking for a great inexpensive meal to take back to you flat or simply eat on the street.
We visited because we didn’t like eating out every night, so bought half a chicken between two to have with a delicious baguette from the bakery. We love rotisserie chicken and this lived up to our expectations with lovely seasoning and crispy skin. The potatoes looked fab as well, but we didn’t try them because we weren’t going to eat immediately. One criticism was that we bought some Moroccan lentils as well, but found they lacked flavour, so if we were to go again we’d just get chicken. It would also be helpful if the shop were open a little later, as it was a struggle to get there when we finished at 6pm. I would have loved to try the courgette gratin, but we didn’t have an oven.
Do not let the size of this place fool you. The food was exactly what we needed after a long day of touring. We had incredible chicken, potatoes and seafood paella. And not only is the price perfect but Chez Norbert is extremely gracious. We went to Nice one month ago and are still talking about it!
Found this little place by chance whilst wandering trough Old Town Nice. Service was timely, and very friendly. The waitress accommodated us by speaking English and translating the menu. The waitress recommended the specials and both were amazing. I recommend trying the 'Beef Daube Provençal ' and the Paella accompanied with some local red wine as recommended by the waitress. To top it off the prices of both food and wine here are very reasonable compared to surrounding venues. Get there if your ever in Nice.
