I have been going to PAD for the longest time, not because they are the best in terms of the products they sell but because they are really consistent, you just know what you'll get. I like ordering their cheesecake because it has the right amount of sweetness and tartness which I'm always looking for. Another thing I liked about their products is that it has stood the test of time, it was good back then..it is still good up to now. If you are looking for a good pastry shop where flavor is more important than aesthetic, then this is your place.. I'm sure you won't get disappointed.
After we went to Taguig. We passed by Paseo de Magallañes to look for a dessert place. We ended up at Park Avenue. We tried their mini cakes: Mango Crunch, Opera, and Roca. I may say it was all delicious.
This is one of the dessert places in the metro that I drive out for. Though now, it's a skip and a hop away from my Makati place compared to the Alabang area where I stayed before. This is the laboratory of renowned pastry chef, Buddy Trinidad and his wife, Rita. Chef Buddy spent over 15 years in the US pastry scene and the exposure and training shows in his crafted pastries and desserts. If I am not mistaken, they started in Pasay before setting up shop in Magallanes. They also have an outlet in Glorietta, the Rustan's Supermarket area to be precise, that I would stalk in the morning to see what 50% off they have to offer. I'm a fan of their ensaimadas and breads that go on discount if not sold within the day. Today, I had the Mango Crunch which is a taste of heaven on earth. The mangoes were sweet with the right acidity to make each forkful together with the cake and cream such a delight. I paired this with brewed Arabica coffee which just completed my day. I normally ask for steamed milk with my coffee because of recent findings and my doctor's advice to stay away from creamers because the damages inflicted on the body by constant use is worse than the effects of sugar or fat.
I tagged along Tita N. and one of her best friends, Ms. G. to Magallanes to try PAD (Park Avenue Desserts , a quaint, little cafe that serves sandwiches, salads, pasta and desserts. This quaint, little cafe is a better Mary Grace for it's devoid of conceit (and pretense of having little positive (and praises and haleluyas! notes scribbled in cute stationeries tucked under the table glass. Don't get me wrong, Park Avenue Desserts also deals with things for the goody-two-shoes but the cafe is also serious with what they've been doing all these years... serving good food. And they have been. We had Roast Turkey with Cranberry Relish, Grown Up Grilled Cheese and Truffle Egg Salad. We were already bloating when we saw the poster of the Ensaymada Ice Cream Sandwich. We just had to have it. We ordered. We tried it. And we bloated even more. So, (with so much added calories we paid and rolled to the car. We were three (happy little pigs. Napping had never felt so good.
Their cakes are delicious! They also make very good macarons. Not a big fan of their food. Pwede na, I guess. But definitely good for coffee, cakes, and other sweet (chocolate) treats!
