Think a tastier Tenya (if it could get even tastier). The concept is the same, restaurant specializing in Tempura. However, I like their breading more as its crispier and tastier (it seems it has its own seasoning)! Serving size is large as always. Their rolls are pretty good too! I recommend this if you're craving for tempura!
I like what Glorietta did to the new wing of Top of the Glo. Japan Town, an expanse filled with high style restaurants serving authentic Japanese food fares that are sure to satisfy your every craving. Craving for tempura? Look no more. Here at Tendon Akimitsu, they feature mouthwatering, crunchy golden battered tempura atop fragrant white rice with their signature Akimitsu sauce. Tendon is an abbreviation of tempura and donburi, and the hearty meal of tempura over rice wins hearts definitely. We were able to taste most of their delectable offerings. But here are what really stood out the most for me... *TENDON SETS AND TEMPURA SETS All their tendon sets come with huge servings of tempura over a bowl of white rice, drizzled with Tendon Akimitsu's signature sauce. You also get soup, some pickled cabbage, and fresh fruit for dessert. Complete meal!!! The only difference of the tendon set from the tempura set is that the your chosen battered delights are served on top of the rice with the sauce. Make sure to sample their tempura as they are the star of this restaurant. Batter was light, not oily, and just the right texture. No overcooking here. Each delectable seafood and veggie morsel shines through and is highlighted in their sets. *Mixed Tempura Tiger Prawns, fish, carrot, eggplant, beans, and shitake mushrooms *Squid Tempura Squid kakiage, eggplant, okra, sweet potato *Ebi Tempura Tiger prawns, eggplant, okra, sweet potato *Nami Tendon Set Tiger Prawns, scallops, whitebait fish, shrimps, okra, sweet potato *DONBURI SET Rice is life, so better gorge on their tempting rice meals too. They have 4 different bowls to choose from but I was most surprised by their Beef Don. Super flavorful, meat was tender, balanced with the veggies and the sauce. Each don buri set comes with the rice bowl of choice, pickled cabbage, miso soup and fruit as well. *Beef Don beef, egg, shitake mushrooms, onions, pickled ginger *Pork Don pork, egg, shitake mushrooms, onions, pickled ginger *Pork Katsu Don pork, egg, onions, Akimitsu signature sauce *Chicken Namban chicken fillet, lettuce, cucumber, cherry tomato, cabbage, tartar sauce Soba Sets If noodles are your go to dish, Tendon Akimitsu also has soba sets to boot. They have cold and hot soba, and these fantastic noodles were firm to the bite, and comes with a side of tempura as well. We tried the hot soup, and it was comforting through and through. Perfect companions to your tendon or donburi sets? Their appetizing rolls of course! Our group's favorite was the Aburi Salmon Maki, with some torched gooey cheese and a surprise fruit topping that makes sense, and made the dish brighter and even more appetizing. Tendon Akimitsu most definitely impresses with their tempura. If you love tempura and can't get enough of it, this is the spot for you. Their staff are so friendly and approachable too. If you have questions regarding their menu, or requests for your chosen sets, they'll be happy tl oblige. Kudos to great service! Tendon Akimitsu is just one of the many options at Japan Town. Will be checking out more of these restaurants and figuring out which one would be my utmost favorite. But so far, I like this Japan Town series. Will keep you posted!!!
I’ve officially covered four restaurants in Top of the Glo’s Japan Town. The previous ones were Musashi Maru, Kintan, and Tendon Akimitsu’s sister company, Hakata Ton-Ichi. Each brand boasts its specialties. Tendon Akimitsu takes pride on their Tendon, a tempura dish in a bed of Japanese rice. The medium tiger prawns are wrapped in the fine coating, crisp but not oily. On taste, it’s flavored on its own, additional sauce is optional. I also had the well-seasoned Gyudon, garnished beautifully with ginger, pickled vegetable, spring onion, and runny sunny-side-up. The starter was a fantastic piece as well, Tuna Aburi (grilled sushi) topped with gooey cheese and fruit cocktail. I love the creativity here! I’ll see you again soon. I’m glad you have your own standalone store now.
The food is good overall. They mean it when they said they have an award winning tempura in the house.
