Zur Uel - Nordrhein-Westfalen

I have eaten sellten as well as it was at the weekend in düsseldorf in the brewery to the uel the fall.

On a good Monday evening we sat down on a table for a nice couple of beers. The bearded manager asked if we had an reservation. Luckily we didn't. Because he replied literally get lost and goodbye.

A typical and traditional German pub with big wooden tables and chairs and an old fashioned, spartan decor and style. Good range of local beers to sample with "proper" food, home-cooked style and portion sizes for hungry guys, like me. I chose a "Weiner Schnitzel with Roasted Potatoes and Mixed Salad". Boy....was it great ...... a huge (covered the entire plate) Weiner Schnitzel in breadcrumbs with a generous helping of golden-brown roasted potatoes and a hearty and crunchy mixed salad on the side. I was determined to eat all but, in the end, had to leave a few potatoes. one of the best-presented and tastiest schnitzel I've had. With beer and coffee, bill was less than Euros 17. Place was half full, maybe more, with an mixed and eclectic group of customers. Superbly efficient and friendly service by the waiter. A hidden gem in Ratinger Strasse at the north of the old town, which many visitors will miss.

Walked in and sat down. A couple of minutes passed and a lady approached us and said "what you want?" Okay possibly a translation problem. I said white wine please and her reply was "no". okay. And then she walked off. So we left.

I travel for business in Gernany regularly and therefore have eaten my fair share of traditional German food....so after reading all the reviews here I was looking forward to eating at this restaurant.Service was swift and friendly, prices moderate. The quality of my dish was no more than average however. The schnitzel was unbreaded, not too tasty and pretty chewy at that. The haxe was quite good though...Please take into account that the restaurant does NOT accept any cards at all....cash only.
