One of my favorite restaurants on the island. It is only open till 4 now, which means its not an option for dinner, which is a shame. Went here for a late lunch. Had to wait a bit but you can stroll the gardens on...the grounds and the wait is worth it. Service was great. Food was fresh and tasty. Love the sandwiches and the sticky pudding cake.
Beautiful gardens, nice tea and jam selections, great restaurant! We had lunch and the food was great. We had the seafood chowder, famous potato pie and crab cakes. For dessert we had the raspberry cheesecake. I was expecting more a cheesecake texture since it has...cream cheese but it was really more pie… Would definitely visit again.
My family has vacationed on P.E.I. over the past thirty years well over twenty times and the P.E.I. Preserve Company is on our “Must Visit” list. We regularly buy their excellent preserves and use them as Christmas gifts for our far-flung relatives across Canada (excellent...Noel hint). Post-pandemic 2022 was an opportunity for us to revisit the PEI Preserve Company after several years of absence and we were anxious to have breakfast in their beautiful restaurant along the Clyde River. We were a party of seven adults that arrived at 9:00 AM. First of all, the restaurant was freezing when we arrived and most patrons had jackets and sweaters on while seated. This should be an easily-regulated issue and should not occur in this restaurant as there is only one main room and not multiple rooms and levels like some other restaurants. The size of our group may have contributed to the major drawback we experienced, i.e. breakfast orders served both late and cold. Poached eggs were over-cooked, scrambled eggs were cold as were orders of pancakes and toast. The potatoes tasted good but as they were served un-spiced, it was an underwhelming experience. Worst of all, it took over 45 minutes between the time we ordered and the actual arrival of our breakfast meals – this is clearly not acceptable and resulted in the food being cold. To me, it indicates that the restaurant either has a very small kitchen or is currently understaffed in the kitchen as the output cannot keep up with the orders coming in. We didn’t complain at the time, probably due to the fact we were famished – we just wanted to eat and get out of the dining room. On the positive side, our waitress tried to keep all of our coffee cups full and patiently took all of our orders. We noticed that there were two managers who were pitching in to serve coffee and talk to customers. We will come back for breakfast next year at the PEI Preserve Company since this restaurant is a sentimental favourite with our family. However, if we experience the same delay or cold food next time, we will definitely complain. If you go to this restaurant, make sure you ask how long it will take to be served – time to send a message.
Went two days in a row. First day, the owners had a meeting with some business person in front of customers and it was distracting and loud. Didn't make for an enjoyable atmosphere. The second visit, the next day for lunch, a big bus full...of people came (totally fine! But the owner seemed annoyed when we said we would wait for a seat and lunch and it left us feeling like a serious inconvenience. The service and atmosphere just seems much less friendly and more tense than last year. Food is still delicious, but the customer service was lacking. Try the lobster roll croissant and raspberry cream cheese pie!
