Calaca Loca Mexican Street Food

I was delighted to stumble upon this food truck in Braunton, but I was disappointed by the oversized burrito that was mostly filled with rice. The veggie version was underseasoned and lacked beans. It was a real letdown.

On Wednesday evening, I visited a food truck in Barnstaple and requested a chicken burrito and beef chili quesadillas. I was informed that the quesadillas were not available as they were from the catering menu on their website. I ended up ordering a beef chili burrito instead. When I arrived home, I unwrapped the burritos to find very full but pale and lukewarm tortillas. They were mostly filled with rice, melted cheese, a small amount of sour cream, minimal salsa, and very little meat - particularly beef, which was mostly beans. To make matters worse, the tortillas were barely warm. We tried to salvage the meal by reheating them in the oven for 10 minutes, but it only resulted in curdled sour cream and slight crisping of the tortillas without improving the flavor. Overall, we were very disappointed with the meal and will not be returning or recommending this place.

I discovered La Calaca Loca Taqueria on KQED's show "Check Please" and made the drive from San Leandro to Oakland because I was craving fish tacos. Let me tell you, these were the most amazing fish tacos I have ever had! I tried one fried and one grilled, and both were fantastic. I couldn't wait to dig in and ended up buying more to share because they were just that good. Bon appétit!

Amazing fishtaks! we also loved the burritos (snake, veggie and steak). my friend loved the suppe. literally everything we try here is great. we enjoy the decor and the prices too.

I had the best carnitas torta here, it was perfect.
