We were glad for the small crowd because it only improved their service. We were instructed before we went to stop by in town and get a bottle of wine. There is an SAQ store just before the bandstand. I believe it has an ice cream sign on the outside but they had a $20 Italian red that turned out to be superb. When we walked in the door, my wife showed the hostess a bottle and said we brought our own wine. She said we were lucky because otherwise we'd be drinking just water. Once the meal commenced, I found everything tasty and superbly prepared. My wife is a bit of a picky eater and so she did not taste the foie gras, which was outstanding. The chilled soup was terrific. The piece of fish that I ordered was incredibly tasty as was my dessert. For one price of $42, you can't beat this meal.
We stayed at L"Auberge du Coeur d'Or from June 24-26, 2016. We were given Room #5: very clean and quiet, hardwood floors, nice linens, comfortable bed, air conditioned, good water pressure in the shower, free wi-fi. No television in the room, which made for good relaxation. The room price included breakfast... waking up to the wonderful scent of homemade croissants one morning, homemade chocolatines the next, was quite a treat. Breakfast consisted of 2 courses: first with the homemade pastry, fresh juice and fresh fruit; the second of eggs, prosciutto or ham, English muffins. All delicious and baked/cooked to perfection! Their homemade jams are on the breakfast tables; it's great to sample the different kinds as you can also purchase jars to take home. We had dinner there the first night: 6 courses, all cooked to perfection, fresh and good quality ingredients. The co-owner is a French chef. We will definitely return to this quaint and wonderful inn. The hosts are friendly and most welcoming. We were quite surprised by such a low price in high season: Room at $115 p/night with breakfast for 2, not per person! The price for the 6-course dinner was also relatively low-priced at $42 per person... and it's bring your own wine!
We were staying at the Manoir Hovey and had already experienced their amazing cuisine so decided on trying the highly recommended Auberge Le Coeur d'Or. We had been advised by our hosts to bring our own wine (a nice perk of dining in Quebec) so after perusing the on line menu we chose a suitable tipple. (Hint the SAQ in North Hatley is basically a depaneur and keeps odd hours in the off season make the short trip to Magog to visit the well stocked SAQ there) The night we visited the Auberge there were two of us and two other couples so we were able to choose where we wanted to sit and took the window seat overlooking a tiny terrasse. The food was wonderful, fig stuffed duck fois gras, melt in your mouth steak and guinea hen (and the hostess was right it is tastier than chicken) Each course was delivered by our most gracious and witty hostess who had a great time verbally sparring with us. The place might appear a bit eccentric but they are serious about the food they serve. The quality of this food far exceeded the price. It is a small fixed price menu that changes regularly.(there may be a small sur charge for certain items but that is noted on the menu) You can check out what is available on line and, as we did, choose a wine to go with dinner. The restaurant does not supply wine but will happily supply the glasses! Purchased some of their excellent jams as well and as requested every time we eat them we think of the owners of this fine establishment.
Whatever we chose in the 4-course menu was outstanding: the cream of asparagus soup, the tender smoked trout entrees, the main dishes of rabbit leg and trio of duck and the wonderful desserts with coffee. The chef prepared all the dishes with exquisite flavor and presented the food with a talent for detail. Service was precise and friendly. Do not forget to bring your wine! A comeback for us.
Had a lovely night dinner at Auberge La Coeur d'Or last Saturday night. We enjoyed the 4 course dinner for a fixed price. There were choices for every palate. The ambiance was wonderful. My husband and I had a window seat with a garden view. I truly appreciated the husband wife team who prepared and served our meal. Bring your own wine was easy as you can buy wine right around the corner from restaurant which we did. Bon appetit.
