I recently visited this restaurant with a friend after not being there for at least a year since I moved away from Hitchin. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to see that the quality had seriously declined. I ordered a cappuccino and a tea, along with two cakes. The cakes were decent, but the coffee was overheated, destroying the flavor. We also requested extra hot water for the tea, which never arrived. The menu was limited and overpriced. When I asked the waitress how she was, she just looked at me and walked away without a response. I decided not to leave a tip. Overall, it's a shame because this restaurant used to be nice. However, there are plenty of other options to choose from in the area. I've heard good things about Joey's Brunch down the road, but I have yet to try it myself.
The Mushroom Melt and gluten-free bacon roll were amazing. The perfect cup of tea was served in a cast iron teapot. The atmosphere was great and the location was beautiful. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Halsey’s was started many years ago by my great great grandfather George Halsey. I made a trip down from Scotland and visited with my two nieces. The food was wonderful. Freshly cooked with quality ingredients and my sulphite allergy was well accommodated. I’m quite sure George Halsey would have approved!
Lovely cosy cafe with amazing food. Their cute metal teapots and tea timers add a wonderful touch to the unique qualities this place brings. I will definitely come again when in Hitchin.
