It was a pleasant surprise to see chips made from scratch, as so many places opt for the easier option of using frozen chips. Despite not being locals, we were welcomed by the regulars and the landlord, Jeremy, took the time to chat with us. It was a lovely evening with delicious pub food, and we look forward to returning in the future.
Quite a long drive, on a narrow country lane, from the A15. However, Welbourne is fairly close to the A17, which we took for the return trip to Sleaford. We took an outside table, as we had our two dogs with us, but were told this is a dog friendly pub, bring them inside . Friendliness, both of staff and local customers, is the key attraction of this cosy little pub. I ordered a pint of San Miguel and a mineral water for my wife. Then, as starters my wife chose breaded mushrooms and I selected the chicken strips, which were accompanied by an excellent chilli sauce, which left my tongue tingling. We then chose the scampi and chips and the steak and ale pie and chips. Whilst the Joiners Arms triple cooked chips are better than most, I still greatly prefer the old style English chips. Heston Blumenthal, you have a lot to answer for! We finished with Jam Roly Poly not quite as good ad grandma used to make and the star dish of the day a magnificent Malteser sundae, which tasted just as good as it looked. The meny is fairly limited, which is to be expected in a small village pub if quality is to be maintained. Both prices and quality are good and the pub is well worth a visit, for its atmosphere and friendly service.
If finding a great pub were an excuse for moving house, we would move. The Joiners Arms is first class. We drank great beer and ate excellent food in a warm and hospitably friendly atmosphere. Despite never having visited before we were made to feel like locals who visited every week. We will certainly go back. Regards Simon
If finding an excellent pub could be a good enough reason to move house, we would be moving to Welbourn. Excellent beer, 1st class Sunday lunch representing the best value we have found for a very long time and topped off with a welcome which made us feel like regulars. What more could anyone want. We will certainly be returning despite the drive from home. Regards Simon
This restaurant is a hidden treasure with delicious food, excellent beer, and extremely friendly staff in a classic pub atmosphere.
