This restaurant needs it's own clear listing on Trip Advisor to differentiate it from the Donington Manor Hotel, please claim it Donington Manor! The Sage Restaurant, situated inside the hotel currently has Craig Riley as their head chef. Craig is extremely talented, dishing up Michelin standard food. We had the A La Carte menu here a few weeks ago. I read the excellent reviews but initially discounted the restaurant because dinner service is 6.30 8.30 and we struggle with babysitters. However we happened to meet Craig in the hotel car park during the Castle Donington Fair and he offered to serve us dinner on a Friday afternoon, on a day we had booked off work to celebrate my partners birthday. We're so pleased we went and are already trying to find a way to return with friends as soon as we can. The food was incredible and such good value for money considering the quality and cooking techniques used. We were served more courses than we bargained for and the service was brilliant they're clearly just a really good bunch that want to wow customers, it was an all round enjoyable experience and the kind of food you think about for days after!! If you live locally and take Donington Manor for granted, look again and make the effort to go, we are so luckily to have Craig's talent on our door step.
The Sage Restaurant was the setting for one of the best meals I have enjoyed in a long time. The influence of the new Chef has transformed the menu. It is both exciting and secretive and you have to try it to discover it! The menu is set out simply and doesn't give much away, it is almost a suggestion of what you might expect. You will not be disappointed! There was no mention of the first two courses, a platter of delicious canapes, followed by an Amuse Bouche and a variety of speciality home baked bread, The three courses that followed were each sublime, The service was impeccable, If you want a truly special dining experience, I urge you to give it a try. I am sure you will be wowed!
We visit the Manor periodically as a small group and the meal we had last night was one of the best, from a set menu, that we have had in some long time. The food was fresh and tasty and the service was excellent. Highly recommended.
A group of 20 met and ate in the Sage restaurant last week and enjoyed a good menu including fishcakes for starters and sirloin steak for a main course finished off with Christmas pudding. Tasty food well cooked. Good service and good value for money. recomended.
Went here for lunch and was really disappointed, had wanted to try for a while, booked for 1pm but arrived at 12.30 and although there was only 2 other persons in the lounge waiting to be seated in restaurant we still had to wait till 1,20 to go through, service was slow with just a total of 3 tables being used and the food not much better, i always take photos of when i eat out and i really just couldn't be bothered, was like i was eating at mcdonalds, actually that would probably had more flavour, There wasnt even a cd player in restaurant it had to be carried through from bar area. tired looking hotel and restaurant BUT having said all that, well done to our waitress, she was lovely and chatty,
