Although it's a little bit expensive for students, but once in a while doesn't hurt much and it's totally worth it! The atmosphere is great, the chef makes great effort to entertain customers while cooking the food in front of everyone. It's a very unique experience to have in Toronto! Also if you go on your birthday/anniversary, the restaurant will prepare a free dessert (either chocolate cake or cheese cake) for you, very good service! I had their cheese cake, I'd say I made the right choice! Will come back for sure!
This review is in reference to the restauraunt and bar area of Benihana's and not the actual teppanyaki service, as we did not opt for the actual teppanyaki (where they cook the food in front of you). The drink selection is fantastic, alot of colors and liquers allow for a great choice no matter your mood. Most people go here for the teppanyaki, but on the bar side they have a great sushi selection and sushi chefs make the food right by the bar at their own sushi kitchen area. We opted for 2 sushi boats and their spicy salmon, which were all excellent and fresh. They have calamari as well as bento dishes, all great alternatives to the teppanyaki dinner if you're in the mood for appetizers and drinks, as opposed to the full dinners. The only reason for 4/5 is, in comparison to other restauraunts in the area, the sushi prices are quite high.
Atmosphere is 3 star. I was expecting more Japanese decor. The teppenyaki cooking tables were a little cramped. Not a lot of space to eat. Service is 5+ star. The servers and chef were very nice and attentive. My son loved the cooking show and all the fire. Food is 2.5 star. The appetizer with sushi, seaweed salad, and tempura was amazing. The shrimp main course was way over done. The garlic butter was tasty but put in everything so everything tasted the same. Overall there was a lot of food but quality could be much better for the price.
I went there for the first time for dinner and the experience was amazing. Not only the staff where really friendly, the food was really good as well. The experience with the whole thing with the fire in the onion dome was amazing. It’s a bit pricey but it’s very much worth it for the amount of food they give. You can literally share the plate with some one and get an appetizer and it would be enough. All I would say is amazing service and food, I would definitely come back again.
First off if you're eating teppan, don't order a appetizer you won't finish your meal. The price is equivalent to the value, you get a live show and a large meal. Everyone gets: Japanese onion soup, Japanese salad, steamed rice, stir fried veggies, shrimp, plus your order. I enjoyed the samurai feast which included a 10 oz filet mignon and more shrimp! It was delicious and it was fun watching the chef prepare everything. If you're going to drive the Fairmont hotel valet has a discounted rate for the restaurants, or close to TTC subway.
