Miller Tavern - North York

Came here with some friends for a nice patio dinner, and the atmosphere is definitely great. The place is beautiful and well decorated, however the food is extremely overpriced compared to the quality that you receive. I had a chicken avocado Cobb salad and it was $26.50 after tax and tip and it had iceberg lettuce in it. For that price I expect a good quality salad. I won't be coming back, it's just not worth the price.

Made a booking in advance and tried to dine al fresco, but no luck for Friday lunch last week. Dining room then - upstairs - and seated in seconds. Three of us, business lunch.Attentive staff offered waters or bar service - we took both and stayed alkohol frei accepting the suggestion of Erdinger N/A beer. Without a doubt the *best* N/A beer I have ever tasted. A nicely crusted calimari to share, and we each received steak frites as ordered and done right. Shrimp as a side was a bonus for two of us. Solid cappuccinos to finish.Was initially thinking Auberge up the street, but glad we decided on the Miller. Great room, great service, high-priced sure, but you get what you pay for in this world - most of the time - and this didn't disappoint. Well-earned 4-stars.

This restaurant has great decor, and is about the only eatery of its kind in the area. So I've been there a lot over the years, but the last two visits (yes, I gave them another chance) have been disasters. The last (and it may be my last) was last night.Among other things that went wrong: didn't have my first choice wine from their menu (this happened twice); took half an hour seating us for anyone to appear at our table (and I had to ask); waited over an hour before any food arrived (including appetizer); is grilled calamari usually served stone cold?; the steak entrees on a special sheet seemed to be the same as the main menu except more expensive. When I asked the waitress, her response was: "The ones on the regular menu are just tougher." (I had a Cobb salad instead, saved myself a lot of money and more disappointment.) (Staff training issue?).Not sure now I'll go back again. (PS: I think my 'poor' rating is generous.)

There are so few comfortable spots to relax drink and dine in the area. This is my go to place. Try the salads they are full of flavour and make for a light summer supper. There are plenty of choices when it comes to seating; the downstairs pub, outside ground level patio, upstairs inside or the upper covered patio. You can go for apps and a drinks or a full on dinner. Free parking but you might have to jockey for a spot at busy times.

I love the miller. My friends and I are regulars to say the least and we have our own little area by the bar. Staff is great and the happy hour is the best in the city
