Pearl Bayview Chinese Cuisine

We came on a icy snow Sunday but the place was full, as was the underground parking. Har Gow was good but the pan-fried turnip cake and steamed beef cheung-fun so-so. Thousand-year old egg shredded pork porridge was average, but the Cantonese style...stir fried noodles quite good. Service was ok. Overall not bad.

Our group of six selected from the luncheon specials, of which we tried five. We all food the food to be very good for the price. Service was polite and quick.

We have enjoyed dim sum here on many occasions over the years. This time was as good as before. Pearl is located in Bayview Village, an upscale mall in North York. The décor is plain, quite utilitarian, but pleasant. Our dim sum was great. We had the usual siu mai, har gow, fried shrimp on toast, beef ribs with black beans, tripe, and pork buns. Everything was delicious and the service was attentive.

You don't see a brightly lit Chinese restaurant with modern Scandinavian decor too often- this is it! Aside from the minimalist setting, the dim sum lunch on a Sunday was equally appealing- the har saw/shrimp dumpling (the standard by which dim sum restaurants are judged) was not, not too sticky and the shrimp crunchy! The rice noodle rolls with shrimp or beef were great without too much soy sauce. The steamed BBQ pork buns were a bit small but very tasty. Mango pudding was a nice cold dessert for a hot, sunny day. Quick service- not that you want to linger too long anyway to walk off those calories!

I went in there to try a wonton soup because thats all I wanted. I was told I couldnt eat it in there because there is a minimum amount I needed to spend to sit in their restaurant. Im not kidding ! the whole place was empty !!. I think it was $20
