The hotel is approached from the public road via a 1/2 mile long drive that crosses over a bridge over the lake. parking was plentiful and free. the house and grounds were beautiful and so very quiet. our room was in the summer house with a view over the lake. it was well appointed and comfortable. we found the staff to be very knowledgeable and recommended places to see in the local area. we only ate breakfast in the hotel but found it to be nicely cooked and being a buffet you could help yourself to as much as you required. we would recommend this hotel to couples requiring a quiet and peaceful stay. Although it has 3 AA stars i feel that it should be awarded at least 4, My wife and I have stayed in 5 star accommodation that couldn't match this hotel for its friendly staff and quiet location.
Nice place close to London with all feel of country side. Lake and walks are nice. 20 minutes gentle walk to castle is great. Suite rooms are very well made and furnished with garden and privacy. Main building is a bit formal. Nice formal full English breakfast.
Beautiful area. Acres and acres and acres of greenery. Such a nice view to wake up to. Rooms spacious. Bathroom enormous. Pleasantly decorated. Walls very thin. Mattress too soft and pillows flat. Food needs more flavour. And though I'm aware this is subjective. At least when there is a meat on the menu, it should be cooked according to the customer's preference.
Absolutely dreadful. But good point first. The landscape it's in is pretty but because it's a golf course you of course are not allowed to go exploring apparently. Now the bad. Rooms are very poorly maintained, seemingly never dusted. In my room the hot tap went from 0 degrees to scolding in about 1 second and rattled like someone was sledge hammering the ceiling. Nothing was new or well done, all out if date decor with yellowing lino etc etc. But the biggest issues. 1 heat. The room was unbearably hot no ac. 2 was noise. Got woken up at 5.40 by someone using a leaf blowers for about 15 minutes outside my window. Then every 15 minutes door slamming, pipe rattling, and God knows what provide such a cacophony of noise sleep was impossible. The very focus of this hotel is golf, people well it's obvious they don't care about them. There is nothing I would point to in this hotel as worth the price, or indeed anything close.
Wonderful hotel we were lucky enough to be upgraded in a wonderful suite. Staff so polite and helpful, food in the restaurant very well cooked, compliments to the chef. Simon our waiter could not have been more conscious 5 stars
