Nice tender hence the 3 stars but cold onion rings after 40 mins?? Not good : average food average service.
We was travelling to Newcastle airport from Berwick-upon-Tweed, decided to call in for Sunday dinner on way we wasn't in any rush didn't fly until following day, We went for the Sunday carvery which u have choice of large and small plate ,also choice of meats beef pork turkey also the usual potatoes and veg yorkshire pudding gravy, it was amazing really enjoyed it we will definitely be back
This was likely the worst dining experience I've had in a long time. My children had burgers, chips, and chicken - the chips were overly cooked and salty. My daughter even found a bone in her burger. I ordered the hogs head burger, which was essentially the same as the kids' meals but cost twice as much. I was very disappointed with the lack of effort from Hogs Head overall. I won't be returning, especially since there are much better dining options available locally.
Really enjoyed our stay in May 2023. Great room, very clean, very comfortable bed! It is very rare we sleep well in a bed and we did in this one, it had extra pillows too which was great. Our room had everything we needed (iron, hairdryer, shower gel, shampoo, kettle, tea and coffee). Staff were wonderful and very friendly. Great location, not a far drive to the centre of Alnwick too. The Hogshead Inn restaurant serves lovely breakfasts, recommend to go early before all the hot food are gone. Meals at the place is nice, a lot of it are seafood based and not a lot vegetarian options (non fish). There's plenty of nice places to eat and drink in and around Alnwick. Highly recommend a visit to Barter Books (old train station) if you like your books. It is a wee gem of a place to visit (opens early till around 7pm) It is usually quieter off peak times. If you love castles then may we recommend.... Alnwick Castle and their beautiful gardens. Chillingham Castle (very unique) Holy Island (be aware of the times of the coastal tides so you don't get stranded on the island) Beamish the living museum (about an hour's drive away to Durham), is absolutely fantastic! Get the annual ticket for a few pounds more and spend all day or two there as there's so much to see and do. Definitely will come back to The Hogshead Inn again in future.
Food was very expensive and not great really. Hogshead head Inn burger was greasy and just not great. Poorly presented burger and some chips. Husband said he would have rather gone to McDonald's over the road. I had a sweet potato curry, £15 for mostly rice. 2 meals and 2 pints of Pepsi £37 both of us disappointed with the quality for the price. Won't be back again.
