We also purchased some cookies/biscuits and meringue to takeaway (highly recommend purchasing these) 10/10 definitely worth a visit if you are near!! Oh yeah and lovely jars of jams. Good prices!
Doesn't look much from the outside it does look a bit run down but the food was delicious and staff were really nice. All food was very fresh and tasty. Great portion sizes.
Called in today for lunch, looking forward to a home cooked mince and dumpling and apple crumble and custard or similar as we have had quite a few times on our annual trips to Berwick. We have previously given this place 5 stars despite the dilapidated appearance and calling itself a farm shop when in reality they only sell jam and meringues as we have enjoyed good hearty food at reasonable prices. Not to be today though as we were told they no longer serve hot food. So after looking forward to a hot lunch a scone was not really going to tempt us to stay, we up and left for pastures new.
To advertise this place on the A1 as a ‘farm shop’ is misleading; when I arrived, I wondered whether I was in the right place. The ‘farm shop’ seemed to comprise of a small, untidy side room near the entrance with a fridge full of biscuits and meringue cases (why in a fridge? and a couple of shelves with jams and chutneys. There was nothing on sale that you would normally associate with a farm shop, such as fruit and vegetables, hams, cheeses, eggs, deli products and bakery goods. The whole place had an air of neglect about it, with a car park full of weeds and rusting caravans. I didn’t bother with the cafe, which I suppose might have been the redeeming feature, because I could see no other reason why anyone would want to visit this place.
A super cafe, with delicious very reasonably priced food. Yes, the menu is limited but this is more than made up for by the excellent quality and quantity in each menu option . We opted for the menu choice of lentil soup crusty bread, followed by a choice of scones; and finished with meringues cream, plus a wee millionaire 's shortbread. This all comes with the choice of tea or coffee. Our tea came in a proper china pot, with a jug of milk and a pot of hot water alongside. The soup was superb (pun intended fully warranted and the home made scones cakes were first class. Our cheese scone and fruit scone were freshly baked perfect! The similarly perfect meringues are made there, and can be purchased in the shop The service from the cheery lady who also works in the small shop, was excellent. Unbelievably this entire feast cost well under £9 each. (After our lunch we bought the farm 's home made raspberry jam and one of their chutneys. The café itself is small with an old fashioned feel, but it 's delightful. There were customers of all ages while we were there, from babies to pensioners. Locals obviously love it. Parking on the premises is easy free. What a find! We 'll return when we re again in this area. Recommended!
