Beautifully cooked and tasty food served very quickly. Staff were quick to take drinks and food orders when we arrived and very polite. Definitely recommend!
The King's Head is one of two pubs in the village, located next to the Golden Lion in the Market Place. Comparisons between the two are inevitable, and it's clear that the independent owners of the Golden Lion have put more effort into the decor and furnishings compared to Marston's King's Head, which appears a bit dated in comparison. However, this seems to be a common criticism of Marston's pubs, whose managers have to work harder as a result. Despite this, the King's Head is still worth a visit. During our visit for drinks, we enjoyed our time sitting at the bar. The beer was excellent and well presented, and the service from the landlady and her staff was warm and friendly. While the pub wasn't busy on a cold November evening, the atmosphere was pleasant, and it was evident from speaking with the landlady that they have a loyal customer base from the village. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely return in the future.
After a leisurely stroll around Allendale and the riverside, we ducked into the Kings Head just before a storm hit. We were pleasantly surprised by the warm and welcoming atmosphere, as well as the exceptional quality of the food - a cut above most pubs. We plan on returning, especially to try out their Sunday lunch. We discovered that the new tenants had only been there a short while and we wish them luck in their endeavor.
We all had an excellent meal at this restaurant. It is a safe environment for dining, with good service. We will definitely be returning, as the specials board offered more than just your average bar meal.
