I had fish and chips with my girlfriend and a fish cake, we both enjoyed it. The portion was big, chips nice (I had them cold the day after, so they were not that bad) and there were many choices on the menu. The price...is reasonable and there is plenty of parking space at the back.
Once this was a decent fish shop, but no more. Partner went out to get me fish and chips on Monday night as I had just come out of hospital from an eye operation and hadn't eaten all day. Fish was horrendous, could clearly see...it was almost burnt from the colour, tiny portion, really chewy and batter so overdone i couldn't cut through it. Fish also smelt as if it was going off. Was totally inedible, as were the chips that weren't just anaemic, potato wasn't even fully cooked. Whole thing went in the bin, so I had nothing to eat that night. Disgusting they even let that piece of fish be served. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
Ended up here on a Monday night as all my other usual haunts were closed (I'll still never understand why it's so hard to get fish and chips on a Monday night Safe to say, I still cant work out if I was satisfied or...not. The chips were delicious, but I couldn't figure out the batter. Unlike most chip shops, which give you battered fish with a lovely texture, the batter on this fish was uniformly smooth something I've never discovered before. It was quite crisp and hard, and the fish was slightly dry in places. Service was friendly, but let down by the quality of the fish and batter. I reckon that if they could sort out the issues with the batter, they would have a top quality product on their hands.
These are without a doubt the worst chips in Norwich! It seems like the fry up inspector must have skipped this place. If they like their chips undercooked and chewy, then they may enjoy it here. But for the rest of us, it was a terrible experience. They were hard, pale, and unpleasant to eat. My friends and I couldn't help but laugh at how poorly they were made. This experience has scarred us and we would not recommend this place to anyone. It was a creepy and disappointing experience that I have no desire to repeat.
