It has all the potential to be a great pub, bar staff friendly and polite. Unfortunately it attracts the less fortunate in society that are unable to behave in the correct manner. I witnessed a young man with a dog and a very large young girl with a small child who did both apear dissabled become aggressive towards a group of pensioners. The premises was almost empty as was end of night, so did not go unoticed but management did not intervene. Such a shame for all concerned.
After the demise of all the other local pubs in the area (Ketts Tavern, The Quebec and The Windmill all gone) I thought I’d give this place a try again. The pub is huge but very tatty and run down. The barmaid is acting like she’d rather be anywhere else than here. Deserted, with only a few locals clustered around the bar. I only really came in to use the Wi-Fi and the “friendly ” barmaid does not know it’s password! It’s clearly marked as a guest network. Although it’s a bit of a walk, I’m off to check out The Jubilee in St Leonard’s Road, it can’t be any worse than this place. By the look of the Heartsease it can’t be long until it joins The Ketts Tavern etc and is no more. It looks to be on its last legs.
We have always lived and used the pub on regular basis but last few months have gone really down hill lack of atmosphere and friendly staff no longer seem to be about, drinks prices have gone up again we can get drinks at local hotel cheaper, not the same any more sad to see this has happened to our local pub
I have lived in the area for approx 4 years and had never ventured into the Heartsease until recently I was looking for somewhere to catch up with a friend who also lives local and rather than trapse into the city she suggested we try the Heartsease. What a pleasant surprise when we walked through the door, a genuine warm welcome from the lady behind the bar (tania I believe) even though she was dealing with a customer she had a warm smile and a greeted us with I 'll be with you in a minute this makes all the difference I’ve been lucky enough visit various countries and no matter where I have stayed from 5-star hotels to visiting local bars its genuine welcoming staff that make the difference. Even the other regular customers were friendly, a lovely surprise Too many Bars and restaurants in Norwich now days make you feel like your invisible while they stand and chat to their regulars or at worse happily talk amongst themselves ignoring customers. I had a Peroni was probably the best I 've tasted anywhere, my friend an Abbott Ale again a perfect pint. Glasses spotlessly clean. We even stayed for a meal which again was nice and reasonably priced. We have since been back a few times and I’m always impressed when staff (tania) take time to remember what you like to drink. It will now be a regular stop off place for an afternoon catch up or bite to eat. It reminds me of a local bar you stumble across at the end of a holiday and kick yourself for not finding it earlier!
