Feedback gevenMy Mum and I worked up an appetite after some retail therapy on The Parade, so decided to stop here for an impromptu lunch. I was really impressed with the attractive interior and warm service when we entered Kintaro. A friendly staff member directed us to a booth, which offered more comfortable seating than what you'll find at many sushi trains. The food was fresh and filling, only costing $30 between the two of us.
This place is usually good, normal service but today, it's a 4/10 for me. Having pre-dinner meal so we are sharing this udon on top of other sushi plates. We asked for an extra bowl when we ordered so we can share it (my husband is sick so it's also better to eat separately), and the waitress said sure. Then the udon came to our table and when we asked for an extra bowl, that orange mini kid bowl was given.. I told them that is kid's bowl and asked if we can get a proper (like the black one but maybe smaller) bowl instead, and this employee from behind the sushi bar said 'cannot'. I asked why because this is for kid (pointing out to the orange bowl) and she said 'we count it as a meal'. I gave a bitter face, LOL. I'm not sure giving a good customer service BY providing a decent adult bowl would be that costly for them..
This place is always consistent. Recent renovations have added mores space and also looks great. Great fresh quality food in the traditional conveyer belt style. Menu is also very good. Staff are friendly and in peak periods we have not needed to wait long.
Kintaro is your A typical sushi train restaurant, pretty much exactly what you would expect. Service is very prompt, although a few more smiles around the place would make it a little more comfortable. I don’t normally venture into sushi train style venues, as I find that most of them are identical. I could see behind the counter, plenty of the coloured sushi plates already made up and ready to choo choo! The food freighted on past me, looking very colourful and fresh, it was quite hard to choose. Nothing really jumped out at me, so just got some Karaage chicken, tempura prawn nigiri and okonomiyaki (seafood pancake). The first two were off the train and the pancake was made fresh. When my pancake arrived, it was hot and fresh, unfortunately I could not see nor taste any seafood in this, granted it is only $4, but still, some hint of seafood would have been nice. From visiting many sushi bars, trains, cafes, takeaway etc I can see that the majority of the ingredients are bought in bulk, hence why the dishes and tastes are very similar wherever you go. You can only really avoid this by going to high end Japanese establishments. All in all, a super cheap and quick lunch, perfect if you are time poor. Flavours were good enough for the prices and worth a visit if you are a fan! Although I would question whether the mayo they are using is Kewpie? Thanks Team
