At the beginning we were looking at the place as a typical expensive museum cafeteria. The furniture and the location make it look just like that. Anyway we were tired and our baby needed to eat so we took the risk. And what a great surprise. The staff is ultra nice, they were very friendly to our son and offered us a baby chair. They speak english very well, although we speak german and asked them to speak us in german (after all is the germanisches national museum!). When the food arrived it was just great. I ate the best fish I have eaten in these years in Germany. The pasta with truffles was also very very good. For 38 euros for the delicious regional menu (includes soup and one main dish), the delicious pasta dish, 2 beers and water it was a great value for money. Its definitely not a typical expensive museum cafeteria, but one of the best discoveries from our trip to Nurnberg.
This place was a big surprise! We were at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg and decided to eat at the Café Arte, which is located there. We had the daily soup and not only was it a great value at EUR 6,- for a good portion. It was also presented and served in a lovely and very unique manner. It came on a tray and the soup was in a ceramic decanter. You got a piece of bread with it and our server delicately presented the soup and served it for us. Very nice and very impressive! The service was also very pleasant and quick. We liked it so much that we came back and had lunch there the next day. This day we had the Weisswurst and it was also presented very nice. We had ordered 3 portions and they placed the whole pot on the center of the table, allowing us to serve ourselves as we pleased. This meal was also very good and prepared in the correct manner. We'd definitely recommend this place to all and will come back.
After being surprised by the beauty and variety of the collection of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, I was again surprised by the quality of their restaurant. I don't think I've ever been served food in a museum that was this interesting and carefully prepared. Not to mention the price- see picture of the Tafelspitz (boiled beef) that I had for €14.50. It is actually worth coming here for the for the restaurant alone. I had no problem with slow service as reported by some reviewers. Recommended.
Coffee and cake were reasonably good, but it should not take 25 minutes just to have our table cleared, and another 45 minutes just to pay the cheque, even after asking for it. One can easily spend half the entire afternoon here, unwillingly.
