Great atmosphere, cool people bomb.com food. Art Cafe has tons of vegan options and just keeps adding more. Appetizers include hummus pita, babaganoush and grape leaves, while entrees include salads, rice bowls, and a vegan breakfast that comes with a tofu scramble, pancakes, and toast (oh and coffee and juice) The owner is super friendly, and there’s always local art hanging on the walls. Outdoor seating is available in the nice weather which is a bonus
This is one of those places that while I like it and come here kind of regularly, I feel like it could be a lot better. I love the malawah! You can get it classic or with their delicious hummus or with vegan cheese . All very good! They have various vegan milk options so you can make substitutions. Keep in mind that this is really a vegetarian place so the standard for most items includes dairy and there are eggs in others. The standard side salad that comes with the dishes, beware. It has a pesto dressing with dairy and you need to replace it. They don 't tell you that... You can order everything vegan and you will still be served it without a thought. Only after having a bite did I realize, ask, confirm and get it corrected. So now I know when I order to substitute the dressing right away. It 's a cute place and sometimes it 's quite crowded. Sometimes it 's not as clean as it should be. Sometimes they have left the garbage out too long and there are flies. They can do a better job on the art portion love the idea but it 's often not done that well. So... I come for the delicious malawah and that 's what the 4 stars are for but they can be a lot better.
Great place. The entire menu us vegetarian, though there are also vegan menu items (you will find many items that involve dairy and eggs but no meat). I would love to see them expand their vegan options but what they have is a nice, solid start. The food is reliably consistent and fresh. Service varies from excellent to meh depending on the day and the person you get as a server. Nice salads and delicious hummus. A great place for a hot tea or coffee. Casual, cute atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. Not the most comfortable chairs, and the indoor space is a bit cramped, but it 's very charming and I love it anyway. A lovely hangout for the locals, and also a place that visiting folks seem to enjoy. Highly recommend overall.
The atmosphere at Art Cafe is really what I would come back and bring friends for. The wait on Sunday at around 1:45 was 45 minutes long for a table for two, they do have a coffee bar where you can order drinks while you wait and coconut milk at the bar in the creamer section (for no extra charge) as well as soy and almond milk as a milk choice when ordering. I would probably come back and just have a drink next time as the food was okay but very under seasoned. I had high hopes when I saw the long line and how adorable Art Cafe is but overall I wasn't very impressed for the price of over $12 per plate. They do label their vegan items which gets them an extra star in my book.
My omni and ovo-lacto friends love this place. I have been here a couple of times and have tried two of the five vegan items. So far I am unimpressed. The hummus sandwich had about one tablespoon of hummus on it, and I waited almost 30 minutes for it, so that was the last time I've been there. If my friends really really really really want to go back, I will try one of the other three dishes and report back. But for now, if you're vegan and visiting Nyack, there are better places for vegans to eat.
