The team of servers assisted us not only with menu selections, but also with having separate (and accurate) checks bravo! We had a platter of different plantain preparations, the perfect assortment to keep hunger at bay and try tostones, maduros, and plantain chips! Our dishes included lechón asado, ropa vieja, carne con papas, and some of their Havana bowls. The meats in the dishes were all cooked well and were tender very challenging to do with a large group! The sides were also packed with flavor, especially the beans. But don’t forget to try their mojito of the month or a passionfruit juice!
I had the Ropa Vieja, yellow rice, black beans and sweet plantains. It was really good but gosh it was a very small portion I added another order of rice because well we like to eat . My child has the chicken tenders with fries and a lemonade. Service was good. I spent $55 on just that... Just to give an idea... With two adults, one appetizer (maybe) an entree each and an alcoholic beverage each will easily cost $100 after taxes and tip (which is fine) but you'll still be hungry.
Great venue to try some South American food other than the typical Mexican fare. Love the plantains, yuca fries, cuban sandwiches... quite authentic. The atmosphere inside was classy. Service was ok, not the best, but not bad at all. Yuca frita yuca fries so fresh! Yummy beyond potato fries. Not too enthralled by the mojo sauce. Tostones plantains mashed and fried. Looks like flowers. Sweet and yummy! The Cuban quite a delicious fare! With roasted pork, ham, cheese in yummy grilled bread. Seems a bit like a panini. Hubby loved it. House salad with steak The salad is very fresh, with thick slices of cucumber, avocado and tomatoes. The steak $9) topping was actually thinner than the veggie slices. A+ for the salad, and B for the steak. A pleasant experience overall, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to go back as long s I'm on keto.
My first time trying Cuban and they didn't let me down. The amazing flavors with the welcoming and friendly staff was great. No matter what you get to eat make sure you ask for MOJO sauce.
A different time, a different place, but the same wholesome food! I have fond memories of the original Cubinatas in downtown Milwaukee. The location, the decor, the atmosphere made it a real special destination spot for me. When I found out there was a new, closer one, I was there on my 1st opportunity. We walked in and were invited to sit anywhere we liked. We (ultimately) chose a table inside and waited (kid u not) at least 7-10min before we were waited on or asked for drinks. It. Wasnt. That. Busy. Despite that, staff was friendly and accomodating. Even making a spiked Arnold Palmer for me on the fly. For apps, I ordered everything I really wanted to try: Plaintain platter was delicious, especially the hard strips combined with the guac or mojo sauces...mmmmm! Makin my mouth moist just thinkin about it! The Cubinatas Chicken Tenders were hefty, but a bit dry. The plaintain crust looked really promising but lacked any significant flavor. The chix/raisin empanadas were also good, but less flavorful than I remember. But the ground beef cheese one was great! For entrees, the Macita Bowl was filling! ..crispy pork strips with rice beans peppers! The bed of white rice and black beans had minimal flavor. But the crispy, hefty strips of pork more than made up for that. The meat was bursting with enough flavor for the whole dish. I can only assume the rice beans were made without much salt/seasoning on purpose so patrons could add their own...but there was also no salt/pepper on the tables! The cuban sandwich was delish...cant really go wrong there. The ribs were meaty, tender, flavorful with the guava bbq sauce. But again, the rice and beans lacked any salt/seanoning. But the texture and taste of real quality meat ingredients in every bite of everything I had was ever-present. Thats what makes Cubinatas special! It truly tastes like home-cooking made with love and with the best ingredients! Thats ultimately what I take away from every visit to Cubinatas ...and I will definitly, certainly be back!
