I sat outside and ate with a buddy on a work trip, and the atmosphere was great. The lobster roll was just as good as the ones I used to eat back in Maine as a kid. The wings were perfectly sauced, crispy, and tender. Fair prices on the beer, which was a very big selection.
Poor Phil's Bar and Grill is a lovely neighborhood go to spot for a voluminous beer selection and barfood. Inside, there are multiple TVs with sports for viewing throughout. The padded bench styled window seats provide a good vantage point fun for people-watching inside and out. Dined outside and felt a bit neglected by our server. I felt bothersome trying to wave down staff for drinks... nevertheless, you can enjoy food and beverages al fresco. Poor Phil's is a few blocks from the Green Line or Metra, so hearing the hustle and bustle makes for great conversation. Poor Phil's beer selection on tap and bottled is far more than adequate too. The Happy Hour Menu is a great deal from 4-6 pm with selected half off apps and $2 fresh shucked Oysters. Although limited, the app prices are easy enough to try a few at a time. Depending on the day of week there are three beers and one cocktail special for only $5 each. Normal seafood pricing is a little high for the portion size but is fresh and flavorful. Poor Phil's Bar and Grill hits the spot for cold brews and fried food.
The jambalaya was pretty good! The service was friendly and overall a great experience. Also got my question of Why Phil is so poor? answered thanks to a smart servicewoman. I 'm not gonna disclose it here and ruin the fun. I recommend you ask them about it.
Great deal on 1 lb crab legs. Simple butter, lemon. I wish they gave you Old Bay though, or at least sprinkled it on the crabs. Lobster roll is also good. Lobster bisque was a bit thick for my taste but did have some decent chunks of meat in it. Solid place to take the kids.
