Food is good just keep an eye on your meat or fish to make sure chef doesn't overcook that's the case at any hibachi place). They have very strong lychee martinis. The pad Thai used be be better last time we had it on the non hibachi side it was not good at all :
I frequent ichiban a lot. I love the food. I've been on the hibachi side and the sushi side. This evening I was shocked at how we were treated. I had a reservation, I did not complain when we were sat 15 mins late. We did not complain when one of our party was sat in a place where they could not see the hibachi, they were looking at the chefs behind. They were also sprayed with water, with no warning by another chef. So much water they had to wipe their face down with extra napkins. Our chef made delicious food. I really can't complain there. After about an hour the staff and owner started to rush us out. Apparently they had over booked, but that is not my fault. I asked for a certain dessert that they do very well and was told the freezer was not working. Then the manager came over and said they were not serving dessert because of how many people were waiting. Which was it? Who knows. I ordered another drink. If they had just given me my dessert I would have been out faster. I understand if you are busy, but people dining in should get at least the industry standard of 90 mins before you start to push them out. When we were almost done with our drinks, they came over and said we could move to a table on the non hibachi side to finish them, because a group had been waiting an hour for the table. How was that even possible, if that was true their reservation for our table would have been a half hour after we sat down?! I adore ichiban but I doubt I will be returning. If I do it's only to use my VIP points up. Yes I have a VIP card. That shows you how much I frequent the restaurant. They also added an 18 percent tip on a table of 5. And as we were leaving the owner was talking about us to the people who were taking our table. Very unprofessional.
This place never disappoints! Great for a date night to go with friends or if you're celebrating something
Bang a Gong, Get it On, so sang Marc Bolan of the incomparable glam rock dinosaurs, T. Rex. Well, Mr. Bolan must be moonlighting in his afterlife dotage at Oakhurst's Ichiban Hibachi Steakhouse. No snark, the food is as good as it gets at any of these Samurai Chef knife wielding emporiums that dot the Garden State but if you venture out on a Saturday, expect a packed house of birthday revelers with a conga line of gong bangers all intent on driving a migraine through little Aaron and Skylar's big day. Frankly, as a converted Burger King, their footprint is far too compact to accommodate this acoustical overload. This is a clang that will haunt me for years in this life and the next. Maybe, I'll return again on Christmas to see if I can scare up a gong a thon for Jesus on His birthday. I'm betting JC can blow out the 2,023 candles on His cake with one breath. In any case, Ichiban delivers great food, well executed but please bring earplugs and a generous gratuity for Mr. Bolan. Three muted stars for my shattered eardrums.
This is NOT a Four Seasons roll. Have ordered this roll many times and this is not what is described on the menu. Should not have spicy tuna at all. Restaurant modified it on its own.
