Feedback gevenThe Narrow Gauge Inn is in horrible condition. It is really too bad because it could be a really nice place to stay on the way to Yosemite.The door handles are falling off the front doors of both rooms I stayed in #42 and #43. Come on, all it takes is for a handy man to tighten them down with a screwdriver.Room 43 had big bugs in the bathroom when I checked in, the bathroom sink is not secured to the base and almost falls of if you lean on it, some of the outdoor and indoor lights do not work from a burnt out bulb or bad light fixture, empty beer bottles and some trash were left in the room when I checked in, and I left a note on the window sill to NGI about that.The small corner shower in the room, the shower head is permanently pointing almost up to the ceiling, and it was very frustrating to properly take a shower.When I booked the room about a month ago it was at $229/night, and when I looked again last week it was $199/night, believe it or not, they refused to make the change even as I was four days out on checking in, bad business decision on NGI part.The restaurant was just as bad as the rooms. They had this really sweet server Halley, and she did her best, but the kitchen fell way short. I ordered the Manicotti with crab on top and the dish was hot but the food was stone cold. Serving crab at room temp is a no, no in the restaurant business. Someone could get really sick from seafood not being properly stored and/or served. Needless to say, that got sent back.They were out of club soda, limited supply of sparkling water (got my one bottle and that was it), no cocktails were being served that night, but I did get a glass of wine.So, as you can see from what my experience was, the NGI is in shameful disrepair.In addition, the front office staff could use a refresher course in hospitality and friendliness to the patrons that are contributing to their payroll check.Will not be back anytime soon, unless under new ownership and some serious renovations are done!
This is located in the perfect location for getting to Yosemite's south gate early in the morning. The rooms are quaint but charming. Very quiet.Food drinks: The Aroma Bar and Restaurant was great. It is like every other place....they just can't get enough help. We were well taken care of but if they could get more help, they could fill all the tables.
Please only read recent reviews. This place used to be good but has severely deteriorated. It is tired and in need of a lot of investment. Rustic granny chic has its place but not if she’s forgotten to dust or maintain the property. The furnishings are now just old. The room was large with lots of mismatched furniture and old rugs. There’s was lots of dust and the coffee machine was dirty inside and out. The bathroom needed a major refurb. The bath was old, rusty around the plug and had mould around the mastic. The shower screen was from the 1980s, very old and worn. The toilet set was loose. The hot water took 5 minutes to come through and then there was nothing between scalding or freezing. The staff tried to fix it but couldn’t. They also said no one else had experienced issues with the water but reading other reviews I now know others had found the same so I feel they were lying to us. The restaurant was also closed and we were given different reason from 2 members of staff. The breakfast on offer at extra cost is an inedible microwave sandwich. The grounds and the pool area were neglected and in poor condition. We paid $300 per night and they did not even make the beds or empty the trash. For this money stay in Oakhurst or Tenaya Lodge. Good points tv and Wi Fi was good. Bed was comfortable and there eas was a large fridge.
Clean, but old, dated and tired. Not a lot of comfort or love here. Pros: Location to Yosemite, quite. Cons: Dated and just a bit sad. Wooden banquet chairs as furniture, broken bed frame, blankets with burn marks, some light bulbs missing, cloudy pool. All that for a premium price. Just overall tired, worn out, dated and sad.
If you’re planning to rent a cabin there, don’t. We visited at the time of the heat wave and AC wasn’t working. Same with wifi. Cabin was clean, but extremely smelly.We talked to the manager, asked for a room change but they didn’t seem to care. Also told us that it doesn’t say anywhere that wifi is available in the cabin, so we can work from the reception if we need to. Ridiculous.We ended up finding something else 1h away from there.This place has a potential, but it definitely requires some renovation, as it looks a bit like from horror movies.
