Bahn Thai Restaurant - Oakville

Ate here for the third time last night. This place does Thai right. The golden squid appetizer is amazing. The we shared another 5 dishes each perfectly balanced in flavor. It takes a while for your food to come because they cook it fresh for each guest. Nothing has been sitting or is over cooked. I really don't know how it could be better.

Two of us went in for dinner . There were only about half a dozen tables occupied and we were shown to our table right away. It took 20 minutes ( and a few polite attempts) to order a drink. Anticipating an even longer delay, we decided to order food at the same time. Not something that I ordinarily like to do. The food started arriving in a reasonable time period but after a few dishes had been put on the table the waiter said there was a problem. They had run out of rice and he wanted to know if we'd like noodles instead. Of all the things a Thai restaurant might be expected to run out of, who would have guessed rice? After a frankly incredulous discussion, our waiter disappeared to get some noodles. He came back a little while later with some rice - the last portion available.........Nice people. Average food. Terrible service. Not somewhere I'll go back to.

My husband and I stumbled upon Bahn Thai this afternoon and we were glad we did. The food was wonderfully prepared and the heat balanced to our taste. We had the mango salad, chicken pad Thai, Thai basil chicken, and shrimp curry in coconut broth. Service was quick, but the restaurant was not busy, so I'm not sure how fast it would be if it were full. We found the potion sizes to be very filling. The decor was lovely but too dimly lit for our liking.

While the food was good when it did arrive, we were very disappointed in the service at the restaurant. It appeared that they were understaffed in servers and the kitchen was extremely slow. The restaurant was not overly busy so there must have been some problems in the kitchen. Twice we had an order brought to our table that was definitely not what we ordered and it was offered to nearby tables and not claimed, eventually being brought back to the kitchen. We have dined here before and had no problems in the past.

It is very dark inside. Food is OK, but portions are small and it is on the pricey side. Not where I would go in Oakville for Thai.
