We enjoyed a flawless three-course menu with a rich and fresh salad, white carving and a beautiful dessert combo. the restaurant offers traditional food from the opposite, which is really appreciated (other ordered and praised the grne soe court.) friendly and professional staff, fast service and a wonderful location surrounded by a herde of brain in 10 m distance. excellent Covid-19 management.
Pleasant location in the middle of the forest, with many hiking trails in bad homburg or further into the Taunus hill. prompt, friendly service and traditional German and hessian cuisine (e.g. game and trout dishes.) excellent destination for a weekend trip or a hike in the environment.
Lunch for 16. the restaurant had 30 guests who all arrived within ten minutes. the two male waiters have made an excellent work to use all tables in succession with a minimum of fuss. the first drinks were in ten minutes on our tables and the orders of the meals arrived in less than twenty minutes. blank plates were immediately removed and new drinks were delivered without delay. service was excellent and the best I get in nine months of eating and in Germany. the trout meal was a standout with the other dressed typical German. several also had the Deer soup, which was also well looked at. the jäger schnitzel was in order, but I had better. suppe, carving, salad, coffee and a dark beer amounted to €25, which was reasonable and very full.
The most important update to start: although this restaurant under the name has been “around for ages”, the Hirschgarten is under new management and the difference is noticeable. They have done very well to maintain the traditional namesake around “game” (mainly venison) while introducing a...more modern and friendly atmosphere and menu. The building is tucked away in the Taunus right next to a game reserve full of deer and offers ample space indoors and a great terrace for summer evenings. They also have a separate room for larger and more private functions. The evening menu is varied and includes kids dishes. In addition, a smaller lunch menu is also available. Even my wife’s intolerances (lactose and gluten) were no problem, a very positive surprise in Germany. The service was very friendly and the drinks and meals were served quickly even though the place was well visited on a Wednesday evening. We will certainly be back. There is even a mini golf place nearby so it’s great for an afternoon out.
