I ate only one piece and the waitress did not even ask why I didn't eat it. Needless to say, we will not return and will let our friends know about our terrible experience.
The moment you finally give a restaurant another shot and the rest of the table who used to love it said it was just Okay, used to be better . I will say the calamari was not good. The technique used to bread and fry was amateur. I remember better and others said the same. The sushi I had was good along with that creamy salad. The server was good and the bill was typical. The others at the table were not impressed but not completely dissatisfied. I can say that the level of precision in which so called Japanese restaurants are performing at today in the Gulf Coast area is rather low and down right sloppy in some cases. I would not go as far as saying that Scott 's is performing low but the competition is sure not urgently pushing them to a higher level or setting them that far apart from the competition. Maybe at the new location this restaurant can rise to another level. This last visit has at least earned another chance. I will return for sure.
This is my friends favorite sushi spot so I had to try it. I unfortunately was underwhelmed. I had the sashimi bento box at lunch with the miso soup. I would stay away from the spicy tuna roll (wish I had read a prior review on yelp mentioning to avoid before I ordered). Whatever they are using for the spice is off -very cheap tasting. I do compare sushi places on a salmon sashimi. This one was not buttery and was too fishy for me. I had to dip the pieces in soy sauce which I don't do if they are decent tasting. My favorite part of the bento box was the seaweed salad which is not what I was hoping for. Maybe I just timed it wrong as this is my friends favorite place so I might try again.
Service was horrible. We went in and were sat at a dirty table and had to ask for it to be cleaned off. Took 10 minutes for our drinks to get to us and waited over an hour for cold, mushy food. The food was comparable to a frozen microwaveable dinner. Mine was so bad that I had to send it back to the kitchen and I left without eating because it ruined my appetite. The server was clueless about or orders, and two of them were incorrect. She was also clueless about menu items. I am a server myself, and we are required to know each and every menu item inside and out. I was so disappointed. Chef Scott was very nice and tried his best to fix the situation, but the damage was already done. Get it together, Chef Scott.
This is undoubtedly the best sushi on the Gulf Coast! The creativity and flavor combinations crafted by Chef Scott are truly outstanding. You absolutely must try the JB Creamy Salad! Whether you live on the Mississippi Coast, are just visiting, or passing through, a stop at Chef Scott's is definitely worth it.
