Hon Sushi Restuarant - Oceanside

I 've always enjoyed going here when I was stationed out here from 2009-12. This time we actually got up and walked out of a place in downtown San Diego just to go back to this place. I was not impressed this time. Took way to long to be helped when I walked in the door. Then the service just seemed to drag. What should have been maybe a 45 min dinner turned into 1 1/2 hours. I wanted to order more after my 'second wave ' and was almost not allowed. Seemed they needed a little more help or better training for the employees they did have. I hope to one day come back to the Hon I remember.

Excellent service and ambience. The food was top notch. Parking was a little tight for my Chevy 2500 but in retrospect I could've parked elsewhere. The menu is vast but easily navigated. Friendly wait staff quickly accommodated my family. I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered an Asahi beer and was given a 24 oz bottle of the great Japanese beer with a chilled glass that lasted me through the wait and dinner. Waitress noted to me @5pm it was happy hour and beers were half price. We got five 8 piece rolls and two tall beers and a kids drink . We left with 10 pieces out of 45 served. The waitress respectfully aligned the leftovers in our to go container via chopsticks. With a 15% tip we paid $65. Totally worth every dollar. I recommend Hon Sushi!

Excellent super fresh sushi, lots of creative and delicious specialty rolls. The all-you-can-eat option is good for hungry young Marines and other ravenous people. Reasonably priced, good service, and it's been here a long time thing a consistently good business, which tells you something in an area where there are loads of sushi choices.

They're back...Used to be my go to for all you can eat sushi in Oceanside. But the service and more importantly the quality of food started to suffer. So I was done with Hon. After a few years I decided to give them another shot after a student of mine recommended them saying there was new ownership or management. I'm glad I gave them a chance. Great selection, great prices, and good solid sushi...

I'm very torn on this review. I lived in the area and ate here often. Recently I went on vacation and was so excited to share this place with my family. It was a must have. My most recent experience didn't go very well, but every experience prior (over 6 years ago) was great. Not sure if anything changed or if it was a weird fluke. The food was still great, but the service not so much. I got my first round of sushi 15 minutes after my family received their meal. I was the only one who did the buffet. My family was done with their meal before I started. Overall I would probably go again if I were in the area as the sushi is still phenomenal.
