Coming all the way from Melbourne, all we know about Malaysian and Indo food are laksa, satay, nasi goreng, nasi lemak, hainanese chicken and bak kut teh. There were simply not much to choose from, even in a big city like Melbourne! So we did not expect to be so blown away by a restaurant in Adelaide, but we did! <br/ <br/ The first time we ordered flying bread, which came out super crunchy and flaky and was served along side a dhal dipping sauce. It's perfection in a dish! We also had a fillet fish curry, which looks like a thai red curry but may even be more delicious! The fish fillets were fresh, juicy, crunchy and soaked with the flavourful curry sauce. Yum!! Another thing we had was the flaming pork. This one was really nice as well, if you're a fan of sweet and sour pork. The dish was wrapped in foil and lit on fire upon serving, which was quite nice to watch! Our absolute favourite dish however, is the sambal squid dish. The squid was really fresh, the smell and taste is absolutely divine! A couple sitting next to us ordered this one on our first visit and it smells so wonderful that we said to ourselves we have to come back to try it out. And it did live up to, may be even surpassed our expectations! <br/ <br/ One thing we also have to mention is the service from everyone at Hut and Soul had been truly wonderful on both of our visits. What we tend to notice in some Asian restaurants is that the service can be quite lacklustre, abrupt and sometimes borderline rude, but everyone here were really welcoming and hospitable. My husband commented that it feels like dining in a friend's house! The selection of background music is really nice too! Special thanks to the gentleman who served us both times (who is in one of the photos . He was so friendly and gave us some really good suggestions for the dishes and where to go in Adelaide. <br/ We would love to come back next time when we've got a chance to come back to Adelaide! <br/ Once again thank you for the great experience!<br/ <br/ Grace and Steven<br/
Only ordered and tried their Yee Sang and it was really good! Purely authentic Malaysian style and delicately presented. Staff are very friendly and helpful, explaining all the ingredients and their meanings.
In a nutshell, better Malaysian food than what you'd get in most Kuala Lumpur restaurants. The attention to detail in terms of spice balance and contrast is impressive. I eat here every time I visit from Brisbane and each time, the consistency is always impressive; sign of a kitchen with integrity. Standout dishes: Satay, Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Lamb Shank Curry, Prawns in Cereal, Rendang ...in fact, the whole menu!
Food here was delicious, with a range of classic Malaysian, Singaporean and Indonesian dishes. The decor is quite nice and the staff were very welcoming. The Singapore sling and beef rendang were both delicious
Being a Malaysian myself living in Adelaide CBD, I had to check out Hut Soul. I wasn’t disappointed. The restaurant ambience gave off a Malaysian feel the deco which originated from Malaysia added to it. The food was great. I especially loved the Ikan Bakar, which I totally recommend. We had the crepe for dessert, another must try Malaysian delight. Can’t wait to go back again to try other dishes.
