The booking was easy but unfortunately the service was not , we ordered food which was not Right regarding choice, you seem to have to do everything apart from the washing up , our bill came to £90 , you don’t mind paying if you get waited on , but that must be the way things are done at The Royal George
Visited earlier this year and food was excellent. So disappointed this visit really unpleasant cheese and onion pie that was more like egg soufflé texture with no flavour, hard undercooked chips and the cheese sauce was what I imagine wallpaper paste to taste like!! I left a lot and expressed my disappointment but didn’t receive any response other than I’ll let the kitchen know?? The two other meals of burger and sea bass were enjoyable fortunately. Will return for drinks but not food unfortunately as lovely refurbished venue and great outdoor areas.
We booked a table for 12 people and was given a 6.30 time slot. We had to wait quite a while for the waitress to take our orders and it wasn 't very busy. I ordered the cheese and onion pie with chips and mushy peas but was told I could only have the veg that was on the carvery. I asked why the menu didn 't say this and was told it was Sunday and it was carvery service and limited menu, and we would have been told this when making the booking. I and others weren 't happy as to save time we had all checked the menu online to decide on what we wanted. When we eventually was told to go to the carvery, the chef said take 1 of the plates on the warmer, which both looked dry, and he said, Help yourself to the veg. On looking at the veg, it was what was left over dry veg, no mash roast potatoes that looked like they had been there for hrs. I asked the chef if there was any mash he said yea there posting to dried up mash i said I 'm not eating that he then went in the back and we was left waiting at least 5 mins while he went and got a tub of Nash which had been microwaved as it was steaming hot when he returned and dumped it onto of the dried out mash. I took a portion and a few other veg with gravy and returned to our table there was our of our party who was appalled at the food. I tried a little of the cheese and onion pie it was disgusting it was tasteless and the cheese was all congealed like the pie had been sat in a warmer for quite a while the veg was hard and inedible. We had only been eating for 5 mins when the waitress came over and apologised but said could she take any orders for desserts as the kitchen was getting ready to close. As we was all eating and only just started we all declined desserts as we felt rushed and 2 of us who had the cheese and onion pie was disgusted we informed the waitress of the food who just apologised and said it was end of service so it 's what was left. One of our other guests had the cheeseburger, which came out with half a burger on the bun he sent it back, and the waitress brought out another cheeseburger. He was given 2 beef Burgers as an apology. I felt like as we was possibly the last customers, we were left to eat whatever was left over, and they wanted to close the kitchen for the day. I had my doubts about eating here in the first place as I had a bad experience many years ago but was told it had new owners and it had improved WOW we were wrong. We won 't be returning to have a family meal here again anytime soon.
After going on a hike, we decided to have Sunday lunch at this restaurant. We were greeted warmly by the staff, who were incredibly friendly. The selection of vegetables at the carvery was diverse and plentiful.
